Questions about hooking up Emotiva LPA-1

So I just ordered an Emotiva LPA-1 after some great advice here on the forum, and now I need to know what else I need to get to hook it up to my HK 247 once I get it. Here is what I am thinking so far:

1. RCA Cables to go from pre-outs on the 247 to the LPA-1. This is what I was thinking of ordering - would these work?

http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10236&cs_id=1023601&p_id=619&seq=1&format=2

2. What type of cable do I need to order to hook up the trigger so it will turn on when I turn on my AVR? Would another one of these RCA cables work?

3. Am I going to need anything else to hook up my LPA-1 to my HK 247?

Thanks in advance!

I would second Face's advice, since that is exactly what I just ordered for my lpa, but I haven't actually heard how they sound, yet. That said, I'm confident they'll be great from what people say about Signal.

Another plus with Signal is Frank's customer service.

The reason I was thinking about buying from Monoprice is that I have had great experiences with them in the past. They actually tell you on the site that if you order before 11am, they will ship out that same day and they have always arrived 2-3 days after that for me.

What has been your experience with Signal's promptness in shipping? I really want to make sure I have the cables by the time I get my amp so I don't have to sit around and look at it for a few days before I can use it ;)

If you go with Monoprice, you should at least upgrade to RG6U, not RG59U, at least I would (thicker is better, right?!).

I've compared Monoprice to my other cables. They sound fine if you don't a blanket over your speakers.

Wow. After looking at it, I don't know if I am ready to spend that much on cables! It looks like the sets start at $90/pair for 2 feet, but I am going to need more like 4 or 5 feet per cable due to my audio rack, so it would be much more expensive than that.

Or am I not looking at the right cables?

You can get the ones below from Monoprice, Or you can go with Signal, or You can go with http://www.bluejeanscable.com/store/audio/index.htm

BJC uses the good old USPS & I usually get my cables 2-3 days after placing the order! Well made cable that won't break the bank.

What? I'm assuming you are trying to say that Monoprice wires suck, but I want to be sure because I think there may have been a typo in your last statement ;)

What about Kex's recommendation on the higher quality wire from Monoprice?

Hmmm... I'm confused about the Monoprice cables that you recommended. Don't I just need a single cable (as opposed to the dual red and white cables) to run from my AVR pre-out to the input on the LPA-1? Or would I just use a red one as one cable and the white as another?

Edit: I see the link for the BJC's now!

    Thanks!

The cables he mentioned are for digital coax or subwoofers only.

I used Monoprice cables as a temporary fix till I could figure out what lengths I needed. They aren't the worst cables, but there's a lot better out there. I would recommend Signal or BW Audio cables. But if money is a concern, check out cfrizz's suggestion, BJC. They also make good products, but I'm not crazy about their connectors/termination.

You will need one cable for each channel. I just use the red & white, but you can buy any of the rca bundles that they have if that is what you want.

Yeah ... their website is not very clear on this, but I had assumed that this was the way to go. I have a box full of Monster Cables (which is probably like mentioning Bose here, oops!) that I am going to use until I figure out what I want to do. I've never noticed any difference cables could make using an AVR in the past, although I have always used thicker ones and 12AWG speaker wire (monoprice and Monster again). Maybe with an amplifier that will be different, as Face suggests, but I had never bought into the whole cables thing thus far, other than shielding issues possibly (and except for their good looks in some cases, which is another matter entirely).

75ohm is for digital coax or subs.

Here are the correct cables(RCA). http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10218&cs_id=1021803&p_id=2864&seq=1&format=2
IMO, they're not terrible, but don't sound fantastic either. They sounded better than some AR cables I purchased at BB that cost much more.

So, for example, on one cable I could use the red for Front L and the white for Front R? So, if I am going to be hooking up 5 speakers, I really only need 3 of these cables (and I would have one leftover)?

Edit: Nevermind, looks like I cannot use the trigger because I don't see a way that the HK 247 can do it!

Dbaldus, I have the same problem with my Yamaha. There's a solution around your trigger problem. It's not cheap (about $250 or less if you find a sale) but you do get a lot in the end.

I have a Belkin PureAV PF60 power console. There's two Trigger Out on the back of it. One is the 1/8 mini plug. The other is a 2 prong power cord. I hooked that power cord into the back of my Yamaha (it has 2 power outlets to connect other devices). All of my other devices, including my amp, are connected into the PureAV. When I power on my receiver, the PureAV powers on my LPA-1, game consoles, HD player, Squeezebox, and SACD player. If turn the receiver off, everything shuts down. There are various modes and timing sequences you can set the power to but in the end, having the ability to shut it all down by turning the Yamaha off is wonderful. Use your imagination.

Now, if I can get my wife to remember to stop the movie in the HD player and not just hit the power on the Yamaha...

    Good luck
