Benefit of shortening a power cord?

Curious, my new power conditioner arrives today and it comes with a 10 foot cord attached to it. However, the outlet I am going to be using is maximum 2 feet from where the power conditioner is going. Is there any benefit to me cutting the cord and shortening it? or should I just leave it alone, wind it up, zip tie it and put it on the floor? I wouldn't shorten it to 2 feet, maybe 4 feet(cutting 6 feet off the end).
What do you guys think? Anyone actually done this?

My Belkin PF60's come with a HUGE very nice long power cord like you mention....its terminated with an angled /gold plated/extremely heavy duty plug...if yours is like that I would leave it...if its a standard molded ac plug then sure I would throw a high quality plug at the length that best suits you.
That longer cord may come in handy one day in the future though....The first rule of Fight Club is you don't talk about Fight Club -
Yea, I ordered a Belkin as well, so I assume it's going to be the same termination. I was just wondering if there is any benefit to shortening the cord, sound wise.

Pull your wall plate off and look at the crappy connections...now follow the miles of wire from there....wont gain a thing..it is a MASSIVE cord..reply here when you get it .
Your Belkin will come with an awesome plug...you will like it...angled too. Dont coil it up near the audio cables...just lay it over itself against the wall in 3 or 4 foot lengths and tie it like that. The first rule of Fight Club is you don't talk about Fight Club -
Just walked over to one of mine...even bigger then I thought...printed right on the cord is 12AWGx3C ....all 3 conductors are 12 guage :eek:The first rule of Fight Club is you don't talk about Fight Club

Shorter or longer (or the length it is currently) could tune it to pick up RF interference. Best to not wrap the extra in a coil as it could transmit or receive interference.

Zero.
That's the answer I was hoping for.
Unfortunately it looks like I won't get to try the cord short or long since UPS lost my package. -

I've done this. I cut the cord on a Monster PowerCenter once and added a better plug. Not sure if it made an audible difference (I doubt it), but the shorter cord was much better for wire management purposes.HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50 LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub
