I'm trying to run wire to my rear surrounds, but being as how it's hard wood, I'm not very sure how to. I'm not a pro at fishing wire through walls, and the ceiling I was told is a no go because there is a room above it and for some reason we can't run that way either.
So, other than running a wire just on the ground and covering it with a rug (don't really want to do this but could if last resort) then what should I do?
And in this room's setup, where exactly would you place the rear surrounds? Also, what's a good way to clean up the wiring behind all the equipment.

It looks like the side walls (right and left side of the main couch) may work best. You could hide some of the wiring under baseboards along walls. The wire sometimes is just the right size to fit in the expansion space of the hardwoods. You could go into the walls at the baseboard under the speaker and fish up to a hole behind the speaker just lke you did the flatscreen.

Ok, here is what I did...I went to the Home depot near me and they had this stuff from Cordmate that basically comes with a strong adhesive tape on it, and you slip the cables in. Looks pretty sharp if you ask me. Anyway, I dropped a line from close to the ceiling and ran it to the door, down the laundry room door and all the way from the molding on the ground to the corner, where it joined the Front left and the Sub wires to the AVR... Pics are better to explain it:

Every rooms different, but without being there, the pictures you provide got some serious issues going on. Back the center speaker to the wall, move your lt/rt away from both walls, even six inches would help and toe them in a touch.
Your rears are so close to the listing spots, you might want to back them up or bounce them off the walls or the rear wall if you have one. Nice clean up job.7.1
