Phono input on Denon 1602

I'm trying to get a buddy of mine hooked up with his first home theater package, but the Denon 1602 receiver doesn't have any phono inputs and this is a big deal for him. Are there any tricks where I could use on the other inputs? Could I just use the CDR in, since he doesn't have one? I wasn't sure if there was a technical difference with those particular inputs. Thanks.

Assuming his turntable DOES NOT have a built in phono preamp.

You need a phono pre amp, the Denon does not have one built into it. These are available from many mfg's. Without it the signal will be too weak and it will not have the proper RIAA eq curve that is needed.
    Dodd - Battery Preamp
Monarchy Audio SE100 Delux - mono power amps
    Sony DVP-NS999ES - SACD player
    ADS 1230 - Polk SDA 2B
DIY Stereo Subwoofer towers w/(4) 12 drivers each
    Crown K1 - Subwoofer amp
    Outlaw ICBM - crossover
    Beringher BFD - sub eq

Where is the remote? Where is the $%#$% remote!
