i have a mirage bps150i bipolar powered subwoofer. It has an 8" woofer on either side of the sub:D On the back of the sub it has low level inputs and outputs which are rca style . The sub also has high level inputs and outputs which are 5-way binding posts . I currently have my avr plugged into the mono input through a monster brand sub cable but there is also a X-over input??????? My question is what do these connections mean??? And can i run my speakers through the sub and get better sound......

I have monitor 60's fronts, monitor 30's rears, and a cs1 center channel with a sony 400 watt receiver please any advice will help because i do not own the owners manual to the subwoof thanks guys

welcome to the forum. I have almost the same rig as yours.
The owners manual for the Mirage can be found at this link below.

    http://www.miragespeakers.com/manuals.shtml

I've got my 60's run thru the sub, set to 'Large' and sub to 'off'/'no' on the rcvr.
Tweak cross./ vol. on the sub
    good luck

If I am thinking correctly, the "mono input" on your sub bypasses all of the crossover functions on the sub amp. as long as that's connected to the sub out on the avr, your avr is doing all of the sub crossover work, which is usually what I prefer on my set up.

in other words, you choose what gets sent to the sub (crossover level, speaks set to large or small, etc. sub gets the lfe channel of multichannel stuff plus whatever is lower than the crossover point you set if the speaks are set to small.

these settings are reliant on the gear you have. Mine are set to small, crossed at 40-60. thats with floorstanders though, the mon 6-'s I would cross at 80, set to small.

sub should get 80 and below + the lfe from the sub out on the avr to the mono input (again assumong its the bypass input) of the sub.

maybe snap a pic of the back of the sub to be sure so we can look at it.

ok i want to continue to keep the sub plugged into mono (I can still control the volume of the sub from the back ) . With my reciever i can adjust speaker size i can adjust lfe mix from -20 to 0dBs . I can also adjust the bass on the speakers from 100Hz to 1.0kHz .Right now i have it on the default setting of 250Hz..My fronts are set to large my center small and my rears small. I can also adjust volume of the sub from -10 to +10dB's, i have it on +1dB because i turn the sub volume up from the knob on the back of the sub.
There are two knobs on the sub.The LP filter which is 50-100Hz and the level knob which is 0-10dB's. There are also two switchs and LF EQ which has three settings -3dB 0dB and +3dB. The second switch is a phase switch whih has two settings 0degrees and 180degrees ...
So basicaly what i am asking is how i should set up the avr with what i have to work with here and what settings do i put the sub on ....

100 hz to 1 khz for a bass crossover adjustment? wow man, something doesnt sound right. usually a crossover will allow you to go from say 40 - 250 tops.

if that adjustment is on your reciever, then thats odd. might be a reciever specially made for a small home theater in a box. with the speakers you have, set everything to small, 80 hz crossover setting and go from there. 250 hz crossover? can not be good man.

not bustin balls, just tryin to help (with lessons I learned many moons ago :D)
