Monitor 50

I set up our early Christmas present so we could enjoy the Christmas music.
I needed to replace my old Advent Legacy speakers I bought in 1985 while in college, as the foam around the woofer dry rotted.
How does everyone else like the Monitor 50's or any other Monitors?

If you'e gonna go with the Monitor series which ain't really all that bad I know from personal experience get the 70's better low end. After that get the CS2 and then the Monitor 40's for surrounds and you'd have a pretty good surround sound for cheap. What receiver or pre/pro and amp are you gonna be running?

I have the Monitor 70's. They don't sound their best without a good two channel amp. I imagine the 50's would be a little easier to push.

I bought the speakers for musical purposes not part of a sound system. The Advent speakers I am replacing are 2 way speakers. My receiver is a twenty year old Luxman R-115. This does not have a dedicated sub woofer.
When looking at speakers I did demo all three Monitor series The low end Monitor and $99each, the mid price Monitor 50's at $199 each and the high end 60/ 70's at $399 each.
To mear I like to hear a boost in the High and Low frequencies and the mid range flat as is on my equalizer. The high end 3 way speakers sounded to mid-range for me.
I may get a sub woofer to boost the lows even more and a new receiver with a dedicated sub.

I think your Luxman should have no problem driving any of the monitor series speakers.. I had a Luxman in my house for a short time.. and it had plenty of power.

Do the Monitor 70's have more low end punch compared to the Monitor 50's?
Or is the only difference being a 3 way as opposed to the 2 way?
