We'll be leaving Saturday morning and going to see Chris Botti at the Blue Note Saturday night. (7 hour road trip) I've never been there but I've heard it's a real nice venue. Then we'll see the sights in New York on Sunday and drive back in the late afternoon.

Should be an interesting trip back on Sunday, as they are announcing a snowstorm.

There wont be too much snow maybe 1 inch with alot of rain later.
The blue note is a real nice club right in the middle of the village.
If you make it there early, hit the record shops in the area for some nice vinyl or obscure cds.

***********It was a great show, that was the highlight of the trip****

Parking across the Blue Note cost $60
It took 6 hours to get to New York City.
It took 12 hours to drive back.

    Rain
    Hail
    Slush
    Freezing Rain
    Blowing snow
    Heavy snow
    Blizzard
    Total white out

We left for home at 10:00 A.M. Sunday morning and got into Montreal at 10:00 p.m. Not bad considering the conditions.

By the time we got to the Adirondacks, I knew we were in trouble. There were VERY few cars on the road, probably because most people had the good sense to NOT go out. I managed to reach about 45 mph sometimes, but stayed mostly below that.

Finally got to the border for the home stretch, but the worst was yet to come. Highway 15 in Quebec is NOT lined with trees or forest, there was a heavy crosswind, that, combined with the snowfall, created total white-out conditions and icy pavement at spots where it was bare.

Found some snow plows and followed them for a few miles, but they exited at Napierville (we didn't even know they were exiting) and they didn't get back on. And that was because they had radio communication with the police that there was a jackknifed rig up ahead and the road was closed. We found that out when we tried to get back on and were refused entrance by the police.

So we took the back roads that run parallel to the highway (sort of). Thank heavens for GPS navigation, at least we knew where we were on the planet.

Now THAT was a real adventure. The crosswinds created "snow dunes" that we had to plow through. Ditches on both sides, and the occasional yellow line in the middle of the road where the wind swept the snow off, is basically how we navigated down the road. (I keep saying "we" but it was "I" who was doing the driving).

If it wasn't for the GPS giving us an idea of how much more "ordeal" there was ahead of us, I was just about ready to pull into the driveway of the next farm house and ask them for refuge.

I've been driving for over 30 years, and this was by far the worst driving conditions I've ever experienced. Oh there have been some other bad ones, but they didn't last near as long as this adventure!

Oh, and did I mention that it was an excellent show?
