Have not used my SDA SRS - What Amps?

I bought these speakers about a year ago (sda 1.2s) and have yet to hook then up due to space limits. I am now wanting to listen to them. I am wondering if I can power these speakers with a single Hafler DH-500 for the lows and bi amp with 2 Quick Silver Mono Blocks (100 w) for the mids and highs. I think I heard somewhere that tube amps do not work with these speakers.

It isn't tube amps at issue, it is monoblock amps that can't be used since the SDA circuitry creates a load that looks to an amp like a short in the wiring if the SDA dimensional cable is used.

Do a search hear on the forum for "common ground" and you will find lots of info on the subject.

Monoblocks can be used if they are able to have the negative posts tied together, or you use the AI-1 interface cable or a reproduction.

Non-common-ground amps are another no-no that only the AI-1 can get around.

I don't think you can use the AI-1 on SDA/SRS. I could be wrong but I remember reading it somewhere.

My amp is a dual mono design in one box but can't be strapped together so I am using the AI-1 but I have SDA/SRS 1.2TLs.

Adcom 565 mono blocks can be strapped together both at the speaker negative terminals and the chasis and would give you all the power you need, 300 wpc.

He said in the body of his post they were 1.2s. They're capable of using the AI-1.

The Hafler 500 is already a 250WPC amp, using those monoblocks powering the top end should provide more than enough power.

Whoops missed it! Disregard the first part of my statement.

When I was first looking to biamp my 1.2 TLs using the Adcom 565s on the lows, I was pondering the question of using a tube amp on the highs. I think if you seach in the Vintage Speaker category, you will find my thread asking about this. Everyone advised me against it. I found that a Parasound HCA 1000A worked very, very well on the highs and turned out to be a perfect match with the Adcoms.

I do remember Louis (ohskigod) telling me that with his Haflers he had to use the same amp for low and high freqs because every other sand amp he tried sounded awful with the Haflers.

You should PM him and find out the particulars. Actually you can check out his sig and see exactly what he is using.

Thanks for everyones input. I am getting ready to fire them up with the Hafler DH-500 as soon as I get some decent speaker cable. After I test them, I will connect the mono's. I used the Hafler DH-500 with these same Quick Silver Mono blocks on a pair of BES styrofoam omni-directional speakers about 10 years back. They sounded great together. Hope to duplicate that sound. The BES's where the 6' tall version and were pretty efficient. They did not need much power but you could run 1000w through them.
