YEAH, i got it last night at cc. i will find the good deal again and have them credit me. played with it last night awhile and i need more time. watched crank on blu-ray in pcm and it was pretty cool. popped in a music cd and it didn't sound QUITE as good as the h/k, but i had the k/k dialed in. and i wasn't able to do a side-by-side comparison. so it may just be in my head. i do believe the more time i spend with it, the more i will like it. over and above the h/k 7300.
amazon has silver for $677.
Sweet! I haven't really had time to dial mine in yet either. I haven't even run the Audyssey setup. I was up late Friday just getting everything hooked up and doing the basic setup. Then I had to reprogram my Harmony so I didn't get angry calls from my wife. I called it quits after that. Then we went out of town Saturday morning and didn't get back till late Sunday. Hopefully I'll get to run the Audyssey setup tomorrow. -
yeah, i haven't done the audyssey setup yet either. just manually adjusted levels and turned down the treble as it is a bit 'brighter' than the h/k with my rti's. my toshiba a-35 will arrive wednesday and so will my monoprice hdmi 1.3a cat2 cables and i'll be bitstreaming trueHD soon enough.

You can probably ease up on the treble change once you run Audyssey. The Audyssey target curve does a slight rolloff of the high end similar to what THX re-equalization does (though more listenable in my opinion - THX re-EQ sounds duller and less detailed to me). I'm running a 705 with a RTi70, CSi40, RTi28 setup, and the rolloff that Audyssey did seems to take the metallic rasp out of highs. Post-Audyssey, I'm not using any bass or treble control.
A little secret: The Onkyos don't let you choose the target curve of Audyssey, so it uses the Audyssey curve by default. However, THX modes use the FLAT curve instead of Audyssey's rolled off curve (so the THX rolloff doesn't cascade with Audyssey's). If you change to a THX mode and turn THX re-EQ off, you're essentially changing the receiver to Audyssey's Flat response mode. The only problem is that re-EQ re-engages every time you turn the receiver off and on, so you'd have to disengage it every time to use the Flat mode. Personally, I like the Audyssey equalization... especially with my SVS sub, which is getting DAMN flat response.
To anyone who can't get a price match in-store and bought the receiver anyway: Call Circuit City's customer service number from the website and complain. I had a printout of a ridiculously low price on the 705 from the CC website that someone at AVS posted and Circuit City ended up crediting my card the difference once I complained.Equipment list:
