So, I was in the local audio repair shop today. They got my NAD 2200PE back up and running :D I was looking around at some of their gear that customers had not picked up.

One was a Harman Kardon ST-7 turntable. Any comments good or bad? I am not sure how much they would want for it. Says customer dropped it off about 3 years ago. Is this a decent piece?

I will keep you posted. He claims to have some broken Mac gear in the warehouse and some vintage gear in there too. I am going to get back to him on those, but the turntable is the first up for consideration.

get a price on the TT.. he may let it go just for the cost of the repairs.. since it was never really his to begin with. but it is now.. so see if he'll just let it go for the cost of the repair. he won't be out anything.. and you'll be happy to have a turntable.

good luck.. I don't know anything about that particular table, but some of the vintage ones sound pretty good after cleaning, and proper set up. check into getting a new needle if you get it at the very least.. and maybe even a new cartridge and 4 new tiny lead wires.

I don't have any experience with the ST-7, but I do have an ST-25 that is a fine second 'table. In the process of buying a vintage Pioneer receiver, the guy gave me the HK, gratis. It's in my HT rig right now and it's been a worthwhile addition. I really like the simple design.

Check out the Vinyl Engine or the Vinyl Asylum. Do a search and dig through the threads. Here is one of many that came up in a search for Harman Kardon ST 7.

I have a St8 with an Ortofon mc catridge. It took an hour plus to set up but was well worth it.The tracking is great and I am very happy with the sound.I still have my AR turntable but the ST8 has replaced it.
