Question on Alpine Amp

I purchased a pair of Polk Audio MMC 6500 speakers. I also purchased an Alpine F450 amp to power them. My question is since the Alpine amp has its own build in crossover included, will I need the crossovers installed that come with the MMC 6500?

i use both but i have comps

the crossover on the amp, is at 35hz, and the the DBs crossover, to split the frecuencys on my comps

Im not sure if you can use just the one on the amp, but i would use both anyway

Yes you will need the crossover that come with the speakers unless you use an additional electronic crossover that will give you a higher crossover point equal to the one in the passive crossover. Some heaunits come with a very nice crossover in them. The Alpine CDA9887 is one of them. The amp as is will probably only give you a crossover point as high as 200 hz or lower and to biamp the components you need a crossver point of 2600hz or higher. To get the most out of your amp though you can bridger it into 2 channels and run more power to you components that way.

^ What he said. But either way, you'll have to use the passive crossovers that came with the speakers unless you get an active/electronic crossover.

There's only a few amps out here that you can actually biamp speakers without using the passive crossovers. The reason being tweeters have to be crossovered very high and few amp offer crossovers that cross out freqs that high. But there are a few amps they will cross out up to 5,000. The polkmomo amps and the jl audio amps are the only name brand amps that I know of right off the bat.

I have my tweets cut off at 5 KHz. ;)

Youre right, there arent a lot of amps with good active crossovers on them. The Polk 400.4 is one tho. Plenty of flexibility. The JL Audio 300/4 is another.

The cutoff on mine are currently at 2.2KHz.

Audison and Arc Audio also have very nice x-over sections. The ones I've owned went up to 5KHz, and 5.5KHz respectively.
