I finally decided to add a tuner to my system so I poked around on audiogon and ebay....

Picked up a Sony ST-SA50ES and it sounds great, I never knew FM sounded this good.

Don’t get me wrong, this is no critical listening source, just pleasantly surprised.

...and after the 5th song you will soon realize that they play the same songs over and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over........

Then you get to switch the stations and listen to X-mas music over and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over........

    AaaarrrgghhhHH!

    But the best part....

I will have more money in connecting it to the antenna in the attic then the purchase of the tuner.

    That too.

Try listening for special broadcasts on Sunday night. That's when the real music comes on. At least 'round here. ;)

Look for university and public stations. They are all under 92mhz. Anything over that is going to be commercial, overcompressed dreck. A good tuner can sound really good given the right station. Some uni stations still spin vinyl and have a ton of dynamic range. They will not sound "loud" compared to the others, but just give the volume a bump and make sure you get a good signal and the sound can be quite lovely.

I didn’t just discover there are radio frequencies out there that my system can turn in to sound...

When I post, I am aware that this is a public forum and the information is for everyone. In this modern day, there are many people that have either never thought about a tuner, or forgot that there are still good non-commercial stations out there beaming out quality music. To be fair, you did not have a tuner until recently, as evidenced by the thread here.

In other words, this is Club Polk, not you guys' personal frathouse. Could you keep that in mind?
