I'm having a new system installed in my truck tommorow,(07 dodge ram quad cab) and i want to use 6x9 momos in the front door.Crutchfield says the momos won't fit,but the db690 will.Does anybody know what the difference is ?The factory size in the doors are 6x9,and the installer says they will make the momos fit.I'm a car audio newbie and am just concerened about modifing the doors in a new truck. All advice is appreciated.

Thanks
mike

The MOMO's are 3.25 inches deep with a 3/4 inch standoff for the mid tweeter bridge. That will be a tight fit. Sometimes you have room to put a spacer between the speaker and the door but with the mid/tweeter bridge it might cause a problem. I would take the door panel off, its easy, and measure before I purchase. I have put larger speakers in doors that fit guides said couldn't fit. You can always put the 6.5 inch MOMO's components in the front if necessary.

I ran a set of MMC690's in my Ram for a couple years and they will fit but you have to do some cutting along with a spacer. Those things have a basket the size of a football.

Im sure theyll get em in there and youll be glad they did. Those are awesome speakers.

Well, this turned out to be a good news bad news thing...bad news they couldn't get the 6x9 momos to clear the window, and when they used spacers to push them out further the hit the door panel. So i decided to go with the 6 1/2 component momos... and they had none in stock. The good news is I ended uo getting a pair of SR6500 components for $400.00 :).They just finished the install not to long ago I and havent had too much listening or tuning time.

When I decided to have my system installed on saturday I was intending to have them install the h.u.,amp ,front and rear speakers then do the bass later on down the line due to cost.Well, after I picked up my truck and having high expectations of having a new system, dropping alot of coin... it was definatley missing something...BASS(duh).So today I took it back and had them build a custom box with 2-10" subs that fit under the rear seats wiith another amp and all I can say is WOW.I'm pretty much car audio noobie,I haven't had a system in a vehicle since 1991 so this is what I just had installed

Evidently, I cant read or I wouldve saw that in your first sentence...lol.

I do believe, you should axe the rear speakers. You have audiophile speakers in the front, and beginner speakers in the back. Besides the fact that having any rear speakers detracts from sound quality, having $800 speakers in the front and $100 speakers in the back is going to add to that.

I was thinking the same thing before they installed the rears but acting on the advise of the installer, I needed rear fill. And also they they gave me the polk buy 1 pair and the other 1/2 off deal I figured for $60.00 its not much to lose if they didn't work out... and then I could let my ears make the final decision.:D

Sounds like you acted more on the advice of the installer's wallet;)

Oh-well, you can always fade to the front and just turn them on when you have people in the back.

I drove a beautiful Dodge Ram QC for 5 years and used rear fill at first. Believe it or not, I suppose because the speakers were so close behind you, they didnt really pull the stage to the rear any. I actually kinda liked the overall sound with them on although they did screw up the imaging tho.

So no worries. You can turn down the rear channel gain on the amp some to blend them in with the front speakers and they should work well. Youll never have optimum imaging using rears but unless you plan on competing or are super critical, youll enjoy your new rig.
