Wow, amazing stuff.
Hackers launch major attack on US Military labs

All it takes is a bot network to drop Trojans in peoples emails and BAM... completely inside.
People wonder why IT locks down their work computers and this is why. No matter what fancy hard core things blocking hackers to get into systems the traditional ways, it just takes one user getting that attachment in an email that says "from your cousin Bob" to break it all.

So they managed to get the visitor's logs.
The US Military has their own band of forensic hackers that probe the national labs, military bases, etc. all the time. They have some pretty good defenses setup.
You can bet they've also been pretty good about hacking into Asian, European, Middle East and just about everyone else's system. The US Government probably employs more hackers than any other country. We are also very good at it. The key is to hack in, maneuver around and get out without being detected. The real danger is from people who have hacked in and you don't know it.
Hackers who leave behind trojan bombs are just idiots. They can cause a fuss, but they aren't the biggest worry to administrators who are responsible for maintaining our sensitive computer operations. Most of which BTW are not directly connected to the net. Isolation is the best defense. You aren't going to launch ICBM's in North Dakota from the Starbuck's in Venice Beach.Carl -
