You already answered my questions...

Well, my questions have already been addressed, at least (not quite answered).

I'm new to the whole HT thing and am building a system this year for Christmas (that is, people are buying me pieces or giving me money). I signed up here with the intention of asking two questions:

- Which would be a better match for the R50: CS1 or CSi3?
- Which should I buy first: center speaker or sub?

However, these have already been addressed, so thank you. I'm still posting this because I decided as long as I had signed up already....why not?

Anyway, all I have so far for the HT is two R50s in Cherry finish ($49 at Fry's...couldn't pass it up). But here is what else I am planning on getting (I will be piecing this together over time due to WAF [I remember this phrase from my electric gutiar equipment days ;)])

AVR: Yamaha RX-V659 (great review at Audioholics, killer price for the features, plus converts between component, s-video, etc.)
Mains: R50s (already have)
Center: CS1 or CSi3 (in cherry finish)
Surrounds: (don't know yet - depends on which center I get, I guess...Monitor 30s?)
Sub: Not sure...VX-10, STF-1, X-sub are all contenders at the moment.

(already have Sony DVD player & 35" Trinitron - a dinosaur, but good enough for my purposes)

Anyway, thoughts on the system? The room I have demands that the TV is in the corner, so that's an issue, but I can't change it unless I remodel the house.

just make sure you get the best you can afford right now, i made the mistake of buying pieces that i didnt study and ended up spending a little more in the long run, lets just say circuit city hates me because i have returned about 6 items in the last 3 weeks...i can pretty much say my system is as complete as its gonna get for now, and i am pleased, just need to look into a good subwoofer and im set

I assume you are purchasing the CSi series center channel becaue it comes in a cherry finish. It will work but the center that matches the R50s would be the CSR...but it only comes in black. The R15s are a good match for the rears...but again, only available in black.

Exactly. The CS1 and CSi3 are being considered because they come in cherry. The CSi25 comes in cherry and is supposedly a good match for the R50s, but it is considerably more expensive than the CS1 or CSi3.

The Yamaha receiver has a center channel EQ adjustment to help you match it to the mains. Anyone know if this would actually do anything (good)?
