My brother would like an HD-DVD player for belated Birthday / XMas gift. Just seeing if anyone has an extra they are looking to sell and/or not currently using. Maybe some extras from the HD-A2 Walmart blow-out.

If not, I think I am going to give my bro the HD-A2 I have in my bedroom and get the A3 from BestBuy (or are there better HD-DVD deals out there?) for myself. For $300, the HD-A3 with 10 free HD-DVDs seems to be a killer deal. I'd probably get the 3 in store + 5 freebies for myself and give him 300 and Bourne, which I already have.

Anyway, hit me up with any insight / offers you might have. Is anyone else doing the HD-A2 new for $100 or so?

I just bought an HD-A1 on ebay ( i think Beardog did too...he beat me out on the first one) that is supposedly new in the box for $115 +$25 shipping. The guy appears to have a boatload of them. I'll let you know how the condition is on mine when it comes.

Okay, so I see BB has the HD-A3 on sale for $249.99.

Couple quick questions. . . Does this still include the 2 in box, 3 pick-em, and 5 rebate HD-DVDs? Also, anyone know of a better price on this model?

I am a reward zone member and my birthday is this month. Anyone know what they typically send out to people on their birthdays? Want to make sure I get any last coupons on it, and I know they send B-day stuff out.

    Thanks!

Okay, so I decided to give my brother my current HD-A2, and just ordered the HD-A3 with 5 free HD-DVDs (with purchase) and 5 more HD-DVDs via rebate for $199.98 out the door / shipped.

Seems like a great deal. Almost too great of a deal if you ask me. Also, I called Toshiba to tell them my HD-A2 was acting a little funny (which it has, but mostly just wanted it up to factory specs before gifting to my brother). They were all too nice about it, as was Tops Electronic (the service shop). Basically, for $15 shipping, they will give it a thorough diagnostic and repair any issues they find.

I can't see how Toshiba is making ANY money by selling low, fixing basically everything for free, etc. But, I'm not one to complain.

They need to grab market share in the format war. What matters is how many players are out there vs. BlueRay and what movie studios will support the HD-DVD format. They can worry about making money on the players once the don't have to worry about staying alive in the HD war.

Does the A3 have 5.1 analog preouts?

nah. It's the slimmer version, like the A2 and A30, which only offers 2-channel analog out and digital via optical/coaxial/HDMI. No multi-channel outs.
