    Russ,

I am definitely interested in demoing these. I was just bout to order them anyway so I have a personal interest in this one. I only have a few posts thus far, but have been a polk loyalist for the past couple of years. Let me know if I can help out!

    Hello,

I recently purchased a pair of Polk RTi A5. They are good speakers but I'm not really impressed.

I also have Onkyo TX-SR707 as my amplifier, which 100 watts per channel.

In the setup, I added 2 db to my fronts (RTi A5's) which are bi-amped. I know that the A5's recommended amplifier range is 20-250 WPC, but why is it that when I crank up the volume to 85, I hear considerable distortion?

If bi-amping increases the amount of power fed to the speakers to twice, that means the speakers are receiving 200 WPC, then why distortion occurs?

Is it because my amplifier is clipping even though the maximum volume is 100? or that the A5's cannot keep up? Is it really true that the A5's can handle up to 250 watts of power without distortion?

I am inclined to believe the latter but I am willing to believe otherwise.

If so, are amplifiers rated at a certain power, e.g 100 WPC, not really capable of delivering that amount of power but only a fraction thereof?
