Hello,
I need help setting up my new Onkyo 605. In my old receiver I was able to change speaker size as per RM6700 manual but in Onkyo there are not place to set speaker size. It wants me setup speakers in Hz. I dont know what setting I should use there. Here is the quote from the manual .
To get the best performance from the RM6700, use the following settings:
Front Speakers - Set to Large
Center Speaker - Set to Normal or Small
Surround Speakers - Set to Small
Subwoofer - Set to Off or None. This setting may not make sense to you as your RM6700 system is used with a subwoofer,
but really, this is the right setting.
Front speakers connected through the Sub speakers output.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Customarily, Small = 80Hz on most receivers. The new Onkyos have independent crossovers so you can tailor it to your speakers' actual response. Normally, you would take each speaker's lowest extension and add 10-20Hz to get a good crossover point, but the RM6700's satellite specs aren't listed.
Try running the Audyssey auto-setup. It should detect how you have your speakers connected, set the crossovers, and EQ the speakers to your room. If you don't want to do that (though I recommend it), set mains to full range (assuming you have the mains wired through the subwoofer as quoted) and all other speakers to 80Hz.Equipment list:
Onkyo TX-NR3010 9.2 AVR
Emotiva XPA-3 amp
Polk RTi70 mains, CSi40 center, RTi38 surrounds, RTi28 rears and heights
SVS 20-39CS+ subwoofer powered by Crown XLS1500
Oppo BDP-93 Blu-ray player
DarbeeVision DVP5000 video processor
Epson 8500UB 1080p projector
Elite Screens Sable 120" CineWhite screen -
Why don't you use the Onkyo's auto speaker calibration to start with, and then tweak from there?

Reading these posts have educated me tremendously - TX everyone. May I ask....
I have:
TX-SR605(B)
RM-6880
Monster power conditional - all monster cabling
1) Should I spend the cash for speaker connectors? Attaching to my receiver is easy without them but the subwoofer inputs and outputs are too small and I really have to cram the wire in - not confident on the connection but it sounds goo non-the-less.
2). I wired my fronts through the SW and yup, it does sound better. Set the subwoofer to off on the receiver. Then I did an auto config with the mic. It sounds good but I checked and my cut-offs on the speakers and they are set to 150mHz and 100 mHz. I'm not a sound engineer (yet), but from what I read I should set the surrounds to 80mHz? This means I will filter less base sound right?
Thanks eveyone. Oh, sould I adjust my speaker volumes with the speaker distance or the db levels? Ok. That's it. Merry Christmas everyone!:o
