Does anyone have an experience with this receiver? I might be able to pick one up at a decent price, so I'm curious if anyone has any thoughts on the receiver.

I'd be replacing my Onkyo TX-SR603X. Would that be a good step up? Or more of a lateral move?

Thanks!

You will love the Denon. I had a Onkyo then switched to my present receiver.

Denon or HK are the way to go, imho. They sound better, are normally built like tanks, and most of their lineup can handle 4 ohm loads without any major drama.

Just remember to get a model that has pre-outs for all channels. All but the smallest HK has them.

I had one....liked it alot. It wasn't too great for two channel so i put a Rotel amp with it and it was a great combo. You will want to make sure you have rechargable batteries for that remote though...it eats them for breakfast.

I have the 3805 as well, and for movies, it's the cats ****. Two channel however is sub-par IMOP

Actually, Denon reworked their receivers starting with the 3805. For a muti-channel receiver, it was probably the best sounding in two channel mode of any Denon for a decade before it. It's not bad sounding at all, getting rid of the midrange congestion and rolled off HF that used to be called "smooth", but was to my ears just nasal and rolled off. Annoying on a good pair of speakers, but would tame a set of cheesy tweeters.

In the big picture of Japanese surround receivers, the 3805 is actually pretty far up the food chain. The updates applied by Denon made a HUGE improvement in overall sound quality.

The nice thing about the new crop of Denons is that they support HDMI 1.3a and 1080p, so if you get a new Denon and you upgrade your TV or projector and it also has 1080p and HDMI 1.3a then you know they are going to be working well together from a video point of view. The new Denons, pretty much the whole line-up, I think but verify, also support the new codecs for sound such as DTS. So you should e set for a few years without needing any upgrades.

I think the new Denon is the 3808CI that might comprare to the 3805. Depending on your Video setup the 3805 wil do well for you, but if your have 1080p and HDMI 1.3a you would be better with the newer Denons, although I have read many video forum posts stating you have to do a firmware download on the 3808CI and it is not always successful. At this point I'd almost wait until the next version if I went with a new one.

I use my 3803 mostly for movies and I love it. With the upgrades in the 05, I think you will be more than happy.
