HT Processor Suggestions

I just purchased a new Toshiba HD DVDP and unfortunately my Proceed AVP will not support 5.1 analog inputs from a source device. My options are just run the standard cable back to the PRE and carry on. The other option is to look for a processor that will support this functionality and take advantage of true HD sound.
I also own a Proceed AMP5 and that will be staying for sure. So what I would consider down the road is a processor that will support balanced IC's back to the AMP (5 of them) and only because this is the way it is connected now. No sense changing all of the cables. I want some really good functionality that can totally switch over to 2CH if I want (not the main rig) and support multiple devices. I am running HD from cable on a Panasonic plasma in a 5.1 environment. No need for more than 5.1. I am probably thinking a couple of grand ($2K) or so for the PRE. Any ideas as to some good names for me to consider. Thanks folks.

If you want to maintain the best 2 channel performance, I would get the Proceed AVP2, or AVP2 +6 model. Otherwise the Cary Cinema 11 is excellent for sound, but has no video capabilities.
If I read correctly, you are not concerned with HDMI features. I think those are your best options (used) in your price range.

I do not think 2CH is my priority, it's just nice to have as I have it now. I am putting together a separate 2CH rig. HDMI is a concern as that is what I have now for video and am looking for the best sound for TV and movies in HD. $2K plus I would sell the Proceed. In Canada I could probably get $1K.Michael

Onkyo PR-SC885 or Integra 9.8, they are the same unit, and can both be had under your budget. I'm really happy with my 885 for both movies and 2 channel.
