I was impressed even before I hooked up my new DVD player today. They use a very sturdy shipping box and the player is in a oppo logo cloth bag. I am hooking it up as suggested just with HDMI to my Onkyo TX-SR805 with the free 6 foot cable included with purchase. The manual was very straightforward, simple to follow and the default menu options were mostly already setup as the player is intended for hdtv and a receiver.

The picture quality on my dvd's are outstanding. The biggest change from my old player was that objects supposed to be black were absolutely black I was always annoyed with my old player when black was really a shade of dark grey.

The sound is great to my ears, I see no reason to try testing optical/coax audio cables

The only complaint is the really small lettering on the remote. In a room with low light you are really going to struggle with the buttons until you have them memorized. This is foremost a DVD player and I can't understand why they wasted 60% of the remote on the buttons 0-9 and made the dvd play controls really small and crowded.

For the $230 bucks I can't think of a better video upgrade.

With the current prices of HD-DVD players between $99 and $199, that upconvert fantastically and play HD DVD's with the new high-def audio formats, I'm curious why you chose an SD player?

I should have also added I wanted this player to also listen to SACD so that was a factor in purchasing as well.

I was not going to purchase a dvd player for blue-ray or HD-DVD until the market decides on a standard and the majority of movies are actually shot in HD.

    That makes sense.

I believe most movies are shot on film, and will remain so for a long time.
