I killed my S-10's

with a little help from Pantera.

Hi all,

I'm a newbie, not an audiophile by any stretch, but man do I miss my Polks! So here I sit, along with several others by the sound of it, waiting for the back-ordered MW8000's to come in.

Like I said, I'm not an audiophile by any stretch of the imagination, but I've been fortunate enough to score some fairly decent (I think) equipment on the cheap, some in need of minor repairs.

My Polks are my pride and joy. I also have a pair of Boston Acoustic A-60's, and a Boston SW-10 that have all been waiting for new foam surrounds for a couple years while I just rocked with my S-10's. Guess I should finally get them fixed!

I aqcuired an old Technics SA-5470 for a great price (read free!) several weeks ago, and was a bit over-enthusiastic with it, and the Polks paid the price.

Anyway, just stopped by to say HI!

I have a pair of S8s around here somewhere. Possibly the worst looking speaker Polk ever made. Still, everytime I hear them I'm amazed that they sound as good as they do. I was using one as a center channel for awhile. Welcome to the forum.

I hooked my brother up with a whole setup of S bookies, the S4s. Actually look and sound better than I originally thought they would. Got a killer deal on them, which was nice as well.

I was thinking of getting him some newer speakers for birthday / XMas this year. But, when I asked if he'd prefer towers or bookies, he said he loved his system and didn't want to change a thing. Just wants a new TV.

Is it a bad sign that I got upgraditis for my brother's rig before he did? For some reason, that just doesn't sound right. I'm actively trying to pass my sickness on to him.

Anyway, sorry to digress, and welcome to the club! Get some new polks.

We barely get to know them, and then they leave us. It's all so horribly tragic.

If there's one important message here, it's that the Technics must be punished immediately. If you just let this go, it will do it again to some other unsuspecting speaker.

I would light the Technics on fire. . . make it scream in pain.

There's someone trying to sell either S8's or S10's on the Long Island Craigslist. If you search you should be able to find them. They've been listed about 10 times. I believe they were asking $100, you should be able to talk them down some.

<laughing> but don't you think we're being a bit hard on the Technics? It wasn't entirely it's fault after all!:D

I don't know if you're really attached to those S-10's, but I'm thinking you could probably pick up some nice M7's or M10's for about what it's going to cost to put em back together.
My equipment sig felt inadequate and deleted itself.

I agree. I picked up a pair of MINT Monitor 7's with Peerless tweeters for $50 yesterday. Found them on Craigslist.

I'll look into those Monitors since it sounds like it's going to be a couple months before the MW8000's are available.
