I noticed this on my setup when I use my HD DVD player or my BD player, normally in my sub. It wont hurt anything from Ive read on the forum here and others though. Mine is rather intermittent so I dont bother.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!

Do you have any crackling when you change the volume also?
From what I have heard it could be dusty controls. Since you only hear it in the surrounds.
Another thought is do you turn your TV on first? I got a slight thump from my sub when the TV was on already and then I turned on my receiver. -
The Marantz more than likely has a seperate amp and circuit, for the surround back speakers. This seperate system is used also for zone 2. What probably happening is when initially turning the system on, it defaults to zone 2 for rear speakers, then reads the command and switches to surround back. There should not be any noise at all. I would contact Marantz. Any noise or thump is not normal.Monitor 7b's front
