I'm new to this forum and have done some reading on some of the posts on stuffing the ports to beef up up the lower end of the Lsi 15. I too think the bottom end is a little muddy and could be somewhat punchier, I'd like to try stuffing the ports, but my question is what ports do we stuff and what is the best stuffing material to use?

This has been tried by our port stuffing expert, Zero, I think. Where are you, Sean?

Do your search, if I recalled, at least 3 years ago or so.

    Btw, welcome to CP.
I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

I was told that dampening the power port(tube) was more beneficial than stuffing the ports. I do this on all modern Polk's I have owned in my travels.

I stuff mine with Dacron or the inside of an old pillow. Did it to a couple of cheap subs, worked pretty well. Doesnt seal it, but dampens very well..

Edit: Do the 15's have any type of internal dampening?

Stuffing anything into the ARC ports will ruin the sound of the LSi's. Anyone thatthinks they sound better like this is deaf and stupid.

ARC port and Power port are two different things

ARC port is designed to reduce midbass emphasis, which if you plug that - i can see that ruining the sound

Never tried plugging either port - so not sure

The port you stuff is the one in the bottom of the speaker. (facing down)

I have not done it to mine, but may give it a shot. (I cross them over at 80hz anyway, so any bottom end lost will not be a big deal to me...)

If you end up trying it, let us know what you think of the mod... (and welcome to Club Polk!!)

Well I tried it and I don't know if I like it!!?? The highs aren't as extented as before and the soundstage isn't as great and I have to give it more volume, but it did give it some punch and the muddy sound seems to be gone, but I think I'm going back to stock.

    Thanks for all the help!!!!!!

What do you damp them with?

I went to the local craft store and bought foam rubber and cut strips and kind of worked it around up the power port, a little tricky getting it up and even. I did't like as it was to flat for me, but do you want hear somthing weird? The extra volume I used for a couple of hours loosened up the 8" woofer alot! Ok don't believe but it sounds much better!!!!!!! Try it let me know

I used weather proofing mastic to seal coaxial. Dynamat is the same thing, just not as thick and pretty. The mastic comes in non-descript brown cardboard, in a roll and it worked just fine.

    tp, welcome to cp.

have you tried repositioning the speakers and listening position? changing distances from nearby walls and reflective objects could change things a bit. bass traps might help too.

if you aren't familiar with this stuff, google up strings like "room acoustics", "bass traps" and "speaker positioning".

as far as break in after pushing them a bit, it's not weird at all. i noticed changes during break in with my lsi9's after driving them hard a few times.
