There are many good sub companies out there. Most believe polk to be decent subs, but that's really not their strong suit according to a lot of people.

check out offerings from SVS, Velodyne, HSU, etc. for some additional options. Polk is supposedly coming out with some new subs that are supposed to be very good. . .

I just picked up a Definitive Technology Supercube I used on ebay for $600. It arrived today. ITs very muscial and so far blends extremely well with my AZ Adagios. I highly recommend it. I definitely like it better than my Martin Logan Grotto.

I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

Historically, Polk subs have been ok for the price in a music system, but they did not hit deep or hard enough for great home theater. (in my opinion of course) Due to that, even on a fanboy site like the Polk Audio forum, we often recommend subs from other companies once you get over the $500 range.

Word on the street is that the new generation of Polk subs will change our opinion of how Polk does bass, but I have not heard them yet. My recommendations will not change until I get a listen to them in a home theater environment or I start reading posts from people whose opinions I trust and they start recommending them.

SVS has the pb12 plus 2 on sale for 1000 bucks, that plus the LSis you run, granted they have good amps powering them will crush his B&W setup.

Unlike many.....I bought my sub mostly for music.....and the PSW1000 is a great choice. It has very clean musical tones and for me is fine for HT also. I live in a townhouse and don't play it supper loud. I'm not looking to shake the walls, I just want to anchor the music and movies with high quality undistorted bass.....and the PSW1000 does that just fine. It also looks really good between the 9's.
