Welcome to the forum! I hope your friend has plenty of money for beer & pizza. My guess is your LSiC is just fine. The two mid-woof's are crossed over to work at different frequency ranges. You are essentially correct, one works at a lower range of frequencies than the other.

It's called a cascade tapered driver array and that's exactly how it was designed. Now go punch your friend in the face.

Yeah... welcome to the Forum TONY!!!!
I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

The same friend that was laughing at your Polk sub, right?

He may be a nice guy, but do yourself a favor - get audio advice elsewhere.

Are the two woofers identical? If they are then why bother crossing them over? I always thought in most two woofer designs one goes through a bandpass while another goes through a lowpass.

Wow. This is one of those cases where what is written distinctly says something different than what was meant! :)

    But, yeah, what MSALLA said....

As for my own experience, I thought I had a blown driver in my LSiC as well until I did some experimenting with my old reciever. It turned out I had my center speaker set for "small" and the receiver was crossed over at a point where the LSiC wasn't getting the full range of sound.

As for slaying the monster....since getting married, the monster has been slain. At least it acts like it.

I think everyone goes through an instance of thinking they've blown some speakers.

I was sure I blew both the tweeters in my mains a few months after I got them. Turns out, the amps I added to the bottoms overpowered my 635 which was running the highs. So, music sounded great for drums, guitar, etc, but vocals were terrible.

Stopped doing that bi-amping mess and everything went back to normal :)

Great setup, but a couple small changes will make it that much better. I would change that sub quickly (I took my free PSW10 back in about 4 hours for my Omni S12), and definitely save up for a good external amp. I started with a Pioneer VSX-1015, then upgraded quickly to a HK 635, and a couple months later started to play with external amps. External amps are the bomb! You can get a good 5-channel amp for $500 or so and it will change your life forever. Feed those LSi's some real power when you have some extra scratch. Or, get a 2/3 channel amp first for $200-$300 to try out first.

If you haven't actually blown a speaker, get your mind out of the gutter, you aren't really into audio. It happens and it's cool, just not when it becomes a habit.
