Hey all,
Newbie here and I wont bore you with all the details but........
Im about to purchase new speakers and this is my finalist list ( unless I'm convinced other wise)
POLK RTi 8 maybe 6's
POLK Monitor 60 or 70
KLIPSCH RF-62's
Paradigm Monitor 7's or 9's

This is for stereo only 2 channel maybe someday full HT
Budget $700 ish for the pair

I'm leaning to the Polk RTi 8's but the little woman thinks they are to big
(she'll either get over it or be mad for a long time)

Would a sub be recommended and what do ya all think????
am I smokin tweeds???
Thanks
HOZ

I currently have an Technics stereo receiver from the 80's that I also plan to update. Right know I dont have any speakers so Im starting there (wife hated the old ones, they didnt make the move to the new house)
I'm not sure of the model put the specs says 115w per channel
    does this help?

That technics should power the 8s just fine. You can add the sub later.

Have you listened to any of these speakers? That would be the best way to decide.

I have listened to the Klipsch and Paradigm at the stereo shops locally, Ihave heard the polks at a friends house a few years ago, they were the monitors I believe. Tomorrow I am going to take a sick day and spend some more time in the stereo shop and see if I can try in home trial, They all sound good in the stereo shops.
Would I need to update receivers if the Technics is fine??? Other than just wanting new stuff??? and how much difference does a sub make?????

I always use my sub when listening to music. It makes a big difference to me. However, I am in the minority in this area. Most of these guys think that it's criminal to use a sub when listening in 2 channel.

But to each their own. Get the speakers first, then think about the sub later on.
