I don't believe there's a lot of KEF fans here. I'd love to get my ears on a pair of their dual concentrics.

I'm a KEF fan. The older designs hold more weight for me personally.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

I'm a fan of a lot of their older models. The Cresta series was uber hardcore and cheap. I wish I still had my Cresta 2's - pretty well put together shelf speaker.

The current lines run on the bright side for me.

    Cheers,
    Russ

I thought the first Q series were a little bright. Hopefully the current line has many improvement from the old Q1's.

I think Tannoy does a better job when it comes to dual concentric design.

Agreed on the bright factor. British = bright. But good speakers over all.

    British = bright
Not in the good old days. In fact, detractors of the "Atlantic" or "British monitor" sound would typically describe such speakers as "polite" sounding.

The 1970s KEF speakers (and their OEM drivers) were terrific sounding IMNSHO. Not for nothing were most of the classic BBC LS3/5-A specification "minimonitors" equipped with KEF tweeters and woofers.

Good info on the classic KEFs at:
    http://www.hifiloudspeakers.info/Anatomy/KEFDocuments/DocumentsIndex.html

    and also on KEFs website:
    http://www.kef.com/allhistory.asp

    The current KEF stuff? Dunno...

I have Tannoy DC's their also British designed but not at all bright. I reserve my brightness opinion only for the first Q series, having owned the Q1 and the Q10c.

I have some Q60's in my bedroom for now until I pick up my Lsi7s. They are way bigger than I thought they'd be when I grabbed them off CL.

For the price I got em for, can't complain. Big, but sound just fine for HT. Haven't listened to much music on them. Cost like $1000 back in the day, supposedly.

I'm a BIG fan of their earlier stuff like the the Reference 104/2, 105 and 107 series. Owned a pair of 105's for a while in fact. I also owned a pair of 'newer' Reference 3's which I did not like as much (although they were built really really well). Don't have any experience with their new line but the iQ9 looks really interesting for the price....

Can't commment about their new stuff, but their older stuff is fantastic. It is VERY detailed and clear. Some do not perfer the sound because it has a tendincy to not be very warm. But I like them.

umm... when I hear the term "bright British" (and not in terms of intelligence), I am thinking "Bowers & Wilkins" (aka B&W).

Most Tannoy are anything but bright. My Monitor 7's are very bright compared to any of the Tannoy's I've owned.

I think they just sound like crap, so bright never really popped into my head.

I think we're in violent agreement!

So... if any of y'all happen to find a pair of the original KEF 105s on the curbside and don't want 'em... feel free to give me a shout :-)

That's all that counts, what sounds great to your ears. Don't worry about any other opinions because they amount to diddly squat. Enjoy!!
