I am looking to do a trade for the "amp deal of the century" Rat Shack amp.
I can make some wires, or if the price is right I could purchase it if someone decided not to use theirs.
Thanks Ben

Seems like a fair trade to me... 15' of silver wire for "THE AMP DEAL OF THE CENTURY!"

This was "The amp deal of the century" but an offset of cost was still assumed. :)

I have 2 of these amps brand-new sealed in their factory boxes. If you're willing to pay shipping, I can ship one to you. PM me if interested.

Still up for paying for the parts and shipping you the amp if you make me a pair of cables. (unless you think that long of a cable would be troublesome).

I have to hand braid those wires, and they are solid silver. I could get a small Adcom for the price of the braided wires. Are you looking to do a car audio install with the 15 footers?

Nah, I have the amps sitting in front of the speakers with the preamp and sources sitting away from it all at the side. My home system has gotten pretty spread out due to lack of space. Sounds like an unreasonable trade, I didn't know what all went into making the cables. Right now I have some 12 foot cables I bought from Ollies Outlet for $7. They are a little short but still work. Somehow I think I'm probably due for an upgrade. The rest of the cables are MIT S1's.

Has anyone read the description of the auction above? The guy claims that he re-flashes some firmware and changes it from a receiver to a transmitter. Anyone know how he goes about this, or is he just blowin' smoke?

I removed the wireless board, possibly that's why mine plays so low?

Bypass all the crap on the front board, crappy opamps, capaciotors, pots, resistors, and I'll bet you get 20 to 20 with very low distortion. They designed this amp to run through your household currant via a digital network device, and then coverted back to analog. I did the mods, and I am very surprised how good it sounds;) No DC offset:)

What does it take to bypass all that stuff that you listed?

I just did the mods to turn it into an amp.

Mine actually sounds like it plays lower than 50hz. Maybe I will pop it open again tonight to see if I can figure out what you are talking about Ben.

Its real easy. Really. If you are interested PM me, and I can call when you are ready + send pics.

    Edit
    I forgot to add...
the improvements are so worth it. The only thing is you need a preamp to do this. You can't just hook it up to something without a volume control. Unless you wire a pot in series with the line in.

Here is the mod that Ben was talking about. It is very easy. Cut 3 wires coming from the RCA inputs and connect them to the corresponding 3 wires on the main board as seen in the pictures, I can't remember the colors but you should be able to see on the pictures how to do it. And of course it is reversible if you would like to change it back. It cleans the sound up a good deal from what I could tell. My cd player does not have enough gain though. It got loud enough but just not as loud as before the mod.

    Thanks for the help Ben.

Hats off ta ya. I had a lot of fun with it:) You can also disconnect the connector from the front board over the balance knob.It will free up a little (as in tiny bit) of currant, and all you will lose is your LED. If left connected all the op amps, caps, and resistors are still active at idle. I don't know if this can be transfered back to the input stages via ground feedback, but I know it sure doesn't hurt. Also I was messing with the multi meter, and found I can get 68volts off from the supply cap to supply cap:eek: I am contemplating a pair of hi output TOP-3 Transistors (like the On Semi MJ21193/94 combo), and a Darlington input. It would be like a mini Adcom GFA 565/585 setup. Much less wattage, but very tight, and punchy. BTW 68vdc hurts!

Very detailed little amp after the full front panel bypass. Did you play with the connected/disconnected front panel header?
