Optical Cable

The Optical Cable is easilly the best subwoofer I've ever owned...

Errr...

I bought one at Walmart (ewww) last night for like 16 bucks... figured why not

I don't have surround speakers or a center, and the 2 ch downmix sounds like dooo dooo

HOWEVER, what a subwoofer demo. I had NO IDEA what I was missing, no wonder I had lackluster bass performance...

I put on Terminator 3 -- set the Outlaw to 0...

I kid you not, I felt literally sick after about 20 minutes of sitting through that movie, after 5 minutes of the movie, I backed it down to -5 on the Outlaw (the subwoofer, not volume) and still - I think my NOSE actually moved at one time...

I take back all claims that the Larger is not any good at movies! hahaha

WOW! lol

To put it in perspective...

One sub weighs 140 pounds, I have 120 pound speakers on top of each sub... and I had to keep moving the speakers back throughout the first 20 minutes we used the Optical cable....

The CD player actually moved as well... hahaha

Just - INSANITY!!!

Honestly -- in my small room...

    Its way to much

I think the bass waves were big enough to travel to the next block...

Like when the Crane in T3 gets going, the entire room was engulphed in the sound of that engine and my ears popped...

It was literally sickening sitting there --- I definitely need a bigger room! haha

So your subs have an input for an Optical Cable? Not sure I'm reading this correct (I'm still waking up, ;) )

Have you tried Superman Returns? I love the opening when the Red Sun collapses, then it and Krypton explodes. A big effing....BOOM!!!

This is a chillout weekend for me, so it's play time with the theater. Will give T3 a shot.

XBox 360 uses an optical cable

My Mom actually came in and told me to turn it down, but it was during a bass passage and her voice sounded garbled..

After it was over - she repeated

    And I'm being serious :)

    Are you being series --

The bass displayed in this room last night was at the road audible - had to be

It submerged the entire room with outright, nausiating bass

For some reason, my PC's optical out and the 360's optical out are both louder than my other sources. If I don't want my neighbors to hear me gaming, I have to keep the volume at -25 or lower.

It appears that he connected his X-Box 360 to his Preamp via an Optical Cable.

Kind of threw me off there for a bit also.

Anyway, sounds like good fun for you while Mom is getting pissed off. Rock on! :D

Its odd as hell to sit through any of this --

Watched 300 at 0 on the Outlaw -

Leaned back from my seat and it felt like my insides were getting ripped out in some of the battle scenes...

Its actually sickening to sit in here with a movie playing past -10...

That's how I feel when I go from analog output to coaxial with my XA1 to my HK 635. With multi channel analog, I have no bottom end. When I flip it over to coaxial, I am engulfed in bass. I love it though. I listen to NIN HD-DVD around -15 and it's pretty disgusting. I can't imagine going much louder. I think my bro and I watched Transformers at around -17 the other day. It was awesome, but I almost had to scale it back a couple times. The bass was sick, and I felt terrible for my neighbors.

Hell, even the move Red Eye had some serious LFE when I watched it. If I turn movies up past -20 on the HK, it's game on.

Now, if I could just figure out the damn multichannel analogs to get the same effect. Maybe I have a bad IC from the player to the receiver for the sub or something.

Andy, there is something deffinatly not right with your connections.:p Comparing the sound quality between analog and digital via the XA1 , the analog wins out every time. Especially when playing DD+ or TrueHD. The dynamic range is greater and the sub (LFE) channel rocks.

For example, I generally listen to movies @ ~20 on the 635, but through analog, I'm @ ~30, with greater dynamics. The only time I switch to digital, is for LOTR 6.1 DTS or Star Wars 5.1-EX. Everything else (especialy HD movies with DD+ and TrueHD, like Transformers and 300) I'm on analog/direct 5.1 . So something is wrong, check the connections/cables, Maybe step them up with some of Ben's cables, and check the settings on the XA1.
