Macrovision and Windows Media Player

Sometime last week I got prompted to update Windows Media Player. I did.
Now, even with some old DVDs, we're getting a "copyright" protection error, or it actually says something about Macrovision in the error message.
I'm going to try to restore the computer to before the update, but I still wanted to ask if you think I'm correct in connecting these two events - update, and suddenly copyright problems? Or is this pure coincidence?
Any way to 'fix' the updated Win player to solve this problem?
Thank you.
Happy Thanksgiving, guys! I have a lot of appreciation for this crowd. A genuine sense of caring and always a helpful hand.

EDIT: System restore fixed the problem for now. I'm still interested in whether I can update Win Media Player and not have the problem.

It depends on which update you ran, I do not install any version updates 10 and above.

I don't even mess with WMP anymore. If you up for trying something else check out VLC.

I wish I didn't upgrade past 9 either. I hate the new navigation."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche
