Really how will the monitor 40's on 2 foot stands sound as rears with moniter 60s as fronts in a small room(14x16x8) they will be paired with a sub so bass is definately not an issue but im wondering if the monitor 30s are just as good if not better

the monitor 30s would be sitting on my 19" end tables but i am worried about the difference in the power handling between the 40s and the 30s because i am planning on upgrading my AVR setup to an Emotiva pre-amp/amp setup in the future. Also i am "Attempting" to match the tweeter heights all the way around the room except for my center channel(**** entertainment center at the moment)The monitor 40s will alloww me to do this on 24" speaker stands the monitor 30's will not unless i mount them to the wall . Am I just getting to ridiculous or will this really affect my sound The main use is for HT

I have a set of monitor 30s that i use for rear speakers with a pair of rti10s they match up pretty well. my couch is against my back wall so i have them mounted up high but the tweeter height difference doesnt seem to matter

K-dough Every room is different and speakers differ as to the sweet spot for perfect sound. To start run your speaker wire on top of the floor with plenty of extra so you can move them around and find what YOU like best. As a rule of thumb for HT your surrounds drivers should not fire dirrectly at your ears when sitting. They should be slightly behind, above and to the side of your listening location. Your mains and center should have the tweeters as close to the same hight as possible, with the tweeters of the mains at ear level when you are seated at your listening loaction. With the surrounds around ear level when standing. One of the more critical elements in speaker placement is keeping your mains an equal distance from the wall behind them (you should actually measure this) and equal distance to the right and left of your listening location. These distances will vary on your room, speakers and what sounds best to YOU. Google "speaker placement" and you'll find lots of reading on the subject, and remember to enjoy all the experimentation and testing as part of the quest.

K-dough I would not worry too much about the power handling difference between the M30and M40 that could almost be zero difference just as well as 25. I have heard a lot of good things about the Emotiva so with good clean power I would say it's a wash as to what you should go with. I have heard the M40 and because of that I would say go with the 40. But there are usually a Polk dealer within a reasonable distance to most people and it should be easy to audition the exact combos you want minus the Emotiva but dealers should have a decent source for you to use to decide from the 30 / 40. Just remember don't expect the same exact sound in your home. I almost forgot this web site (Polks) has a lot of info and tools for you. Check out the "Education" link at the top of the page, and you can use the "System Builder" link from the home page or if you look at the "overview" tab for the Monitor 60 it suggest both options you asked about (M30 and M40 as good matches for surrounds.

The Monitor 30's are Polk's "sleeper" speaker, in my opinion.

I believe they're too small for fronts (although that is be done in smaller rooms), but for rear speakers, these things are incredible.

    Nice price, too.

There's been more than once when we've replayed scenes from movies, facing the rear wall, to listen to these little buggers, amazed at what they can do.

    Yep, Polk's "sleeper" speaker.

    :)
