RM6880 and TXSR705
Hi, I'm new at this. I just got a good deal on an Onkyo TX-SR705 receiver (will be delivered today or tomorrow). Now I'm looking for good set of 5.1 speakers with a budget is $500. I've seen RM6880 advertised at Frys for $500. Will these speakers make a fair HT system? Room space does not lend to larger speakers, not even bookshelf types. Also, would be better to purchase the RM10 (5 sat speakers) and a separate subwoofer with the same budget? Thanks in advance for any feedback.

KC, The sub with RM6880 is the weaker piece of the set. If you bump up the budget a bit, you can make a killer system out of the RM10 with a better sub.

Thanks Val -
I ended up at Frys this afternoon considering thr RM6880, and ran into a special (probably discontinued) HTS, Polk Audio HTS71 system. It had six satellites (Same RM10 as the 6880 (4)), and a much beefier sub, PSW12. In addition, it came with Onkyo's TX-SR604 and DV-CP704 DVD player, and all needed wiring. All for the same price as the RM6880's. I dont need the AV nor DVD, but cant complain having them included, plus two additional RM10s for complete 7.1 and hopefully a better sub. I think this was far a better deal than the RM6880 alone, so I jumped on it. Now I have an AV and DVD for sale on eBay or Craigslist to offset the cost too.
Can someone tell me hows the PSW12 compare to the sub included in theRM6880?
Thanks for your support. -

Good deal, KC, and the PSW12 is much better than the one included with RM6880. It is a bit large, but for being free, I wouldn't complain. If you use the LFE out vs. "the Polk recommended way", make sure to set the x-over on the receiver at 120 Hz and enjoy!

What a coincidence; I just purchased RM6880 with Onkyo TX-S705. It's just two days after set up, but I am blown away by the sound quality.

Home theater or music? I started out with the RM10 setup, and after 7 months, discovered I liked music more, So I upgraded the system to booksheves, Then AGAIN JUST 2 WKS. AGO to Flr. standings in the front.
The RM10 system is sweet for HT(I still miss the sub), but you don't want to keep tweaking it-"STOP PICKING AT IT OR IT'LL NEVER HEAL!"
Good luck & welcome to the forumI refuse to argue with idiots, because people can't tell the DIFFERENCE!
