SDA SRS 1.2TL Questions
I was lucky enought to score a set of these bad boys on CL yesterday for a song. I am anxious to get these hooked up, however had a couple questions. The unfortunatly did not come with the interconnet cable. Does anyone have a spare for sale? I was told I could make one out of a standard RCA cable, but I would rather have the correct one. Also, the guy I bought them from mentioned a couple of the drivers were not working. Could this be because he did not have the interconnet cable hooked up? He said he thought it has to do with the crossover but wasn't sure. Seems strange that the same two are out on both of them. He said the speakers were fine. I think he was powering them with a small surround sound amp! He said he was the original owner but I doubt it from what I saw. Anyway I'm anxious to get these going, unfortunatly all I have to power them at the moment is either a P.L. 3000 or a Bryston 2B. Neither of which will feed them enough power I bet, but after the purchace of these, the vandersteen 2w sub and a bunch of P.L. stuff I bought this weekend, funds for a decent amp are a bit low

Yes, the sda drivers will not work without the interconnect cable installed.
Congrats on the score,

Hello Dr. Evil & Welcome to club Polk!
Congrats on your purchase!!!! What did you pay for them?
I paid $1258 for mine and (3) 6.5's needed to be replaced and (4) of the tweeters were dead.
You can use for the time being a piece of 12 gauge solid copper conductor that you can buy from any hard ware store. Strip back 1" of the insulator on both end and clean the exposed copper with some sand paper or a razor blade (I like to make sure there's no film on the copper before using it)
as per the dead drivers or tweeters, it may be true, you'll have to hook them up test them out.
You may even want to pull out every single driver (tweeter & 6.5") and test each one all by itself. You will know right away which one is bad or not.
You can hook them up to an ipod with a stripped 1/8" headphone plug or directly to the output of a small radio with no bass or very little bass on.
The Tweeters (all 8) should be in my opinion be replaced anyways with Polk replacements. The current Polk Replacements are very very good. You'll need RD0198-1's. And you will need 8 of them. Call Polk Customer service and tell them that you are a Club Polk Member and you will pay $48 each and receive 2 day shipping for free.
As per bad 6.5" drivers, it is very rare to have bad ones, those 6.5" drivers are very well built and take an extreme punishment to destroy them. But if you do find ones that sound incorrect then you can buy replacements from Polk.
But I do not like the Polk Replacements for the 6.5's, they do not look like the original. What I have done over the past year is buy up as many as I can find on eBay, people sell them all the time and they go for around $25 each plus shipping.
The 6503's are the easiest to find, but the 6511 are not.
Good Luck and please post some pictures!
Lasareath
Thanks for the info Lasareath! I absolutly stole them for $360. Guy wanted 500, told him I had $360 cash and a truck to move them, and he took it. I'll look into building a cable over the holliday weekend, and hopefully get to try them out this weekend also.
Just wondering, if the factory tweeters are in working condition, why replace? Better sound?
Pics to follow, they aren't in 100% mint condition but are still very presentable. There is a bit of damage to the wood top on the right channel, not too bad though. I'm definitly not complainingMain System / Phase Linear 400 Amp, 4000 Pre, 5300 Tuner / Pioneer P-D70 CDP CT-F9191 Tape H-R9000 8-Track / Kenwood KD-750 TT / Polk SDA SRS 1.2TL Loudspeakers / Conion C-100F Gehttoblaster / Omnibot 2000 Robot that plays tapes -
None of the SDA drivers (the 4 on the outside edge) will work without the SDA cable. The cable is no longer available from Polk and finding a used one is damn near impossible, so making your own is the best bet. WARNING: Do not use mono block, non-common ground or dual mono amps with your speakers unless you make an AI-1 interconnect cable or are able to strap the negative outputs together.
The new tweeters are a marked improvement and you will not need the sub you bought.Political Correctness'.........defined
