I am currently looking to buy a new reciever. My choices seem to fall to three units.. the denon 2106. pioneer 1016sx, the marantz sr-7300 or onkyo 703. my prefence is 70/30 meaning 70% ht 30% music. My current fronts are monitor 60s, rears R30s, and svs pb10 sub. My room is kinda of lively so auto setup with room eq is important. Any suggestions especially from those of you using M60s would be greatly appreciated.

I'm running an Onkyo 705 with older Polks - RTi70 mains, CSi40 center and RTi28 surrounds, with a SVS 20-39CS+ subwoofer. Before that, I had the Onkyo 603. The 705 has Audyssey MultEQ XT, which I highly recommend. It fixed a lot of the little minor complaints I had with my room's audio, and it gave me nice flat smooth subwoofer response. In my experience over multiple receivers and Polk speaker setups, Onkyo receivers give a nice neutral sound that works great for accurate-sounding home theater and clean music reproduction (and I've thrown everything from bluegrass to classical to punk to death metal at them).

The 703 is an older model, so I'm assuming you meant the 705. Check 6ave.com for a sub-$600 price on the 705 if you're interested.
    Equipment list:
    Onkyo TX-NR3010 9.2 AVR
    Emotiva XPA-3 amp
Polk RTi70 mains, CSi40 center, RTi38 surrounds, RTi28 rears and heights
SVS 20-39CS+ subwoofer powered by Crown XLS1500
    Oppo BDP-93 Blu-ray player
    DarbeeVision DVP5000 video processor
    Epson 8500UB 1080p projector

From my experience I would go with the Marantz. I have seen a few of those Pioneers bite the dust for no reason. My second choice is a toss up of the Onkyo and the Denon. Marantz has always made rock solid gear, with better than average sound quality.

I've got an Onkyo 503 and while it's older with NO PREOUTS! ugh it's still a quality receiver. So if I was getting one first of all make sure it has preouts as a must, I would go for the Onkyo. But I feel (all might not) that Onkyo is kinda low level unless you get a really high up there Onkyo receiver. Post back with results.

I love my Denon. Never had any issues with it and does everything I need it to. The only thing I want s more power (some times I just can't get music DVDs loud enough).

(Denon also had authorized dealers for refurbed units. You can get a little more for a little less and it has a warranty. Just make sure it's from an authorized dealer or denon doesn't cover the warranty [even if it's a new unit]).

I would go with the Marantz personally. I have several Marantz components and am very happy. The Marantz customer service is top notch. Go to thier website and email them for same day response. The output ratings are also very conservative.

Thanks to all for your replies and info. I went out today and picked up the pioneer elite 80tx. So far i can see why there have not been any recommedations for pioneer. I replaced my yamaha 5740 and I have not heard such a huge diffrence that i thought i would. To be fair to the pioneer i have not even scratch the surface with the auto eq and the many listening modes. I have 10 days to demo this before i can return it no questions ask. I will do some more critical listening tonight and the next couple of days. To make matters worse I think i may be able to get a great deal on a denon 3805 but i may have to act preatty fast. On a side note something the auto setup did that was preatty strange. I have monitors 60s in the front and R30s in the rears and cs1 center. It set them all to large. with a crossover of 80hz. Everything else it was right on point.
