Hi!

I had the chance last month to be able to buy a Polk CS1 center speaker and a set of Polk Monitor 30 speakers (along with an Onkyo TX-SR605 receiver) used but in like new condition for a very very good price.

Of course i would like to add to those speakers a set of 2 front speakers since my old JVC speakers are really bad ;) I don't really want to mix brands so i'll go with Polk again. The perfect match would be to buy a set of 2 Monitor 50 floorstanding speakers i think but i can't find them here in Qu

The RTi 8s are a big kick up from the M50s and for surrounds the M30s will be fine. The CS1 won't be an exact timbre match, but it will work. You're fine...you can change things up down the road. If the 8s are a better deal up there, go for it.

    Combo rig:

Onkyo NR1007 pre-pro, Carver TFM 45(fronts), Carver TFM 35 (surrounds)
    SDA 1C, CS400i, SDA 2B
    PB13Ultra RO
    BW Silvers
    Oppo BDP-83SE

Cool thx for the reply. Which sub do you think i should get with this. My room is small and i don't want something too much powerful but it must worth the price though. Polk recommend the PSW110 but the rating of this sub is somewhat low so i just wonder if there's a better option. The small PSW111 looks cool. The PSW10 is cheap. Just wonder if such small and inexpensive subs will worth it.

Also you said the CS1 wont be an exact match with the RTi8 but should i change the CS1 for a CSi 3 or it will be fine this way ? Some stores like FS here replace the old RTi serie with the new one and offer good deals for those old models but i would need to sell the CS1 and it will be an hassle so close to christmas.

Maybe i should try to find a set of Monitor 50 from a store in canada sppecially since my room is small ...

Agree with Ron you will be fine but if you can swing the CSi-3 or better yet the CSi-5 it will be a better match. Since the current RTi line is being updated you might find some great deals on the previous model. As for subs you can find much better than Polk for the same price at SVS or HSU.

Thx for the subs recommendation. The problem is i wont be able to find those brand here.

The choice here is very limited and small stores often sell speakers at an insane price (often twice as much as the price in USA). Big stores sell at the same price but some big rebate (can be as much as a 500$ price cut) are avalaible here and there.

The brand avalaible here are Paradigm, Energy, Polk, Klipsch, Momemtum, Cerwin vega, Mordaunt Short, JBL, Canton, Infinity, Athena, Boss.

Sonicboom is the SVS dealer for Canada... www.sonicboom.com

They're in GTA somewhere, but ship throughout the great white north. If you're local, then I'd encourage you to visit their showroom for a demo. Paradigm makes nice subs, though they maybe pricey...Velodyne as well.

Small place/large place...the RTis are just a better speaker and you'll be much happier with them than the M50s.

I love my HSU subwoofer so you can't go wrong with them. I love it so much now that I feel the need to upgrade my surrounds to attempt to match the subs quality but of course I'm on a tight budget so all I can afford is two pair of RTi4.

I mixed the RTi and Monitor, but in the reverse direction from what you're proposing. I have Monitor 60 fronts and a Csi3 center. For HT, they mix fine. For music listened to in Prologic, there is more of a noticeable difference. Lately though I've doing 2ch instead of prologic listening so it's not an issue. If you play your receiver's test tones, the Monitors definitely sound different from the Csi3.

The Csi3 has a smoother, fuller sound. The Monitors' treble is a bit harsh. I wouldn't say bright, but just not smooth if that makes any sense. I'd pick up some RTi8s on sale now if I didn't have a baby coming in 7weeks. If you go with Rti8s and keep the CS1 center, your mains will be outclassing your center.
