"DTS HD support for DTS core only"

What exactly does it mean? This is in the specs for the HD-A2.

My understanding PT, is that it only supports DTS HD and not DTS master.

So, basically it downgrades it. :(

    wiki:
DTS-HD Master Audio is a lossless audio codec created by Digital Theater System. It was previously known as DTS++ and DTS-HD. It is an extension of DTS which, when played back on devices which do not support the Master Audio extension, degrades to a 1.5 Mbit/s "core" track which is lossy. DTS-HD Master Audio is an optional audio format for both Blu-ray Disc and HD DVD.

One goal of the DTS-HD Master Audio format was to allow a bit-for-bit representation of the original movie's studio master soundtrack. To accomplish this, DTS-HD MA supports variable bit rates up to 24.5 Mbit/s on a Blu-ray Disc and up to 18.0 Mbit/s for HD-DVD. There is support for a 96k sampling frequency and 24-bit depth samples in up to 8 channels for both disc formats.

OK there is DTS (SD DVD), then DTS core HD (HD DVD) then DTS -MA (HD DVD), Just like DD (SD DVD), DD+ (HD DVD), DDTrueHD (HD DVD).

You can have movies recorded on disk as DTS core HD, which is like DD+. DTS-MA is like TrueHD. Except DTS-MA is exact bit-for-bit (lossless) as studio.

Almost right, at least as I understand it. The disc is recorded in DTS-HD-High Resolution and DTS Core is extracted (downgraded) from that so it is backwards compatible for all current DTS capable equipment. The advantage is it will be at a full 1.5mbs instead of the 780 on standard dvds. So this is how they shake out

    DD/DTS standard def
Downgraded DD+/DTS-Core standard def+ (higher bitrate)
    DD+/DTS-HD (high res) high def
    DD TrueHD/DTS-MA (master audio) lossless
