Some one out there must have have a mint pair of S10s that they would consider parting with. I'm beggin with ya here.

Seriously, I really am looking to replace my S10s that I regretfully parted with several years back.

Thanks for looking and I hope any S10 owners out there will consider selling their babies.

They show up on ebay from time to time, there haven't been a lot of S - series sales on the boards, ever. Good drivers, horrible cabinets - very flimsy and extremely resonant.

A quick search shows them here on the flea market only once in the last 5-6 years. A BANNED member picked some up from Craiglist cheap and was flipping them on the forum. According to the thread they were never sold here.

I was real pleased with the set that I owned. I must be easily impressed. It was my first and last set of polks. I loved them for music, and they could produce very impressive bass.

I currently own a pair of definitive tech 2004 towers, a clr 2500 center, and a set of bpx surrounds for my home theater, which rock, but the bipolar design of the definitive speakers suck when it comes to pure music.

I was happy with the S10s, but if any one has suggestions for a comparable set of polks, I would be open to suggestions.

Thanks for the interest and replies.

Get a pair of Monitor 5 or 7; You can have them for $100ish and they are great sounding speakers.

+1 on the monitor 5 and 7, assuming you want to stick to the bookshelf route (the 7's ar ea little large for a bookshelf, but to many is the best of the old monitor series)

if you want to go more recent, go to the old RT lines. Heard good things about the RT7. the later RT line like the RT55 to me sounded great. there are lots of older Polk options out there, you can have a blast exploring.

thats not even touching floorstanders. RTA12's were a fav of mine, and of course you have to try SDA's sometime before you die :D

Thanks for the tips. I'll look closer at the vintage models suggested.

Are any of the new polk bookshelf models worth considering at all?..

If you're craving bass, I'd say go for the Lsi 9's, assuming you've got good enough components to keep up with it.

I've got a spare Onkyo 777 AVR in the closet. Would that treat the LSI9s with any respect?

No. The LSi series needs high current power that is rated to push 4ohms. That Onkyo doesn't fit the bill.

    Hmmmm...Sounds like a challenge.

Sounds like a little experimentation is in order. That's always fun.

Thanks for all the input. I'll have to keep y'all updated.

The S series don't seem to be too well regarded. I had a pair of S4 a long time ago - that's what made me fall in love with Polk.

Not a challenge regarding the Onk and the LSis. Experience...by most everyone who has tried the LSis and mass market AVRs. CAN you use it? Sure...but the results just won't be that good.
