Krell 250A amp...on it's way!!!

As a lot of you guys know, I was looking to buy a 2 channel amp for a while now. There were many great choices that I had (a lot from recommendations from fellow Polkie's, greatly appreciated). In the end it came down to a super deal Venomclan (Jeremy) passed on to a fellow Polkie that I just couldn't pass up. I was looking for high power along w/ high current, something this baby brings in spades. Plus I always wanted to try a Krell in my system & this is my chance.
My AAD 2001 monitors are very demanding speakers & have already taxed my previous Van Alstine amp, 220x2 (highly rated by the way) into submission. That's why my priority was for quality power & current.
In my book there is only one way to audition a new piece of gear...in your own system in your listening room. I know you should try to give a listen at a dealer, but buying used pretty much rules that out as an option. Even listening at a dealer, there's just too many variables that don't apply to your own system & room.
I did a lot of reading on this amp & it gets great reviews from both the magazines & end users. Once I get it hooked up I'll know if all is true. I'm looking to balance out a fairly warm system & this baby might be exactly what I'm looking for.
Stay tuned!!

I've got the same amp and the only word to describe it is PERFECTION.
Enjoy! -
OH, and one other thing, you'll want to mate it with a Krell Preamp for optimal results. Doesn't really make sense not to.

Tony,
Let me tell you, Paul's DAC is the real deal!!!! The more I listen the more impressed I am. If there was ever a toy you were going to ask Santa for...this baby should be on your short list. I can't wait to hear how the Krell will blend in with the DAC."2 Channel & 11.2 HT "Two Channel:Magnepan LRSSchiit Audio Freya S - SS preConsonance Ref 50 - Tube preParasound HALO A21+ 2 channel ampBluesound NODE 2i streameriFi NEO iDSD DAC Oppo BDP-93KEF KC62 sub Home Theater:Full blown 11.2 set up. -

Please explain further, I'm very happy with my CJ pre & I'll have to wait & see how everything jells together. Maybe the CJ is also a match made in heaven to work with the Krell. I'm sure your CJ is a fine pre-amp. The Krell amp uses proprietary motorola transistors with excellent transient response times. To lose resolution by using a "slower" preamp, just limits the clarity and resolution through the Krell amp. It doesn't really matter when the volume is down - at that point, the preamp is entirely passive (resistors). However, when the preamp is using its "gain stage"... that is when the transient response of the preamp will come into play.
Also, the Krell amp is entirely balanced circuitry design. So, to get maximum benefit of the balanced XLR signal, you'll want a preamp that is designed with the same design philosophy/circuitry.
Balanced amps and preamps have double the componentry that signal ended do. You've now got a truly balanced amp. Make sure your pre-amp is entirely balanced as well. Many xlr connections aren't much better than single ended because the circuitry isn't fully balanced. KRELL does balanced circuits correctly. Not too many manufactures do. -
Congrats and give a review. Plz.

Can't wait myself. I'm excited about auditioning this in my system & putting it thru all the paces. Now I'll get a true feeling of what Krell is all about. It should be a lot of fun. I'll have other Polkie's over to chime in with their comments also."2 Channel & 11.2 HT "Two Channel:Magnepan LRSSchiit Audio Freya S - SS preConsonance Ref 50 - Tube preParasound HALO A21+ 2 channel ampBluesound NODE 2i streameriFi NEO iDSD DAC Oppo BDP-93KEF KC62 sub Home Theater:Full blown 11.2 set up. -
I think it will definitely balance out that warmth nicely.

I thought you were getting the CJ amp

The CJ MF2500A was at the top of the list. However, I just couldn't pass up such a sweet deal on the Krell KAV 250a. I'm looking forward to getting this bad boy up & running in my system to hear how it performs. As far as input impedance, both the CJ & Krell are 100k ohm which is a perfect match for my CJ pre, which helped me make the decision."2 Channel & 11.2 HT "Two Channel:Magnepan LRSSchiit Audio Freya S - SS preConsonance Ref 50 - Tube preParasound HALO A21+ 2 channel ampBluesound NODE 2i streameriFi NEO iDSD DAC Oppo BDP-93KEF KC62 sub Home Theater:Full blown 11.2 set up. -
