If you leave your unit in an enclosed rack or in a low ventilation area

It can cause damage to your unit...

I'm JUST sayin ;)

    Nah

My Dad has a rack loaded with gear

And his Outlaw 990 - the one he gave me that was broke, basically was due to heat expanding and contracting the components (according to the Outlaw CS) - thus causing a few components to fail...

Did he put it near an amp? That would create a lot of heat and cause it to fail.

the thing that puts out the most heat in my Dad's rack would be the digital cable box.. lol

    Haha, so true.

If I had a dad with an Outlaw 990, I'd be listening to it 24/7! :)

    Just saying.

the Outlaw Audio 990 doesn't put out hardly any heat at all.. your dad needs to learn how to use gear properly is it. my 990 sits on the top of the audio rack. miles away from any heat source or amps. and it's cool all the time. never had any kind of issue like that with it. so it wasn't lightening afterall? but human error.

I'd like to know too.. because if they do.. then people will think Outlaw is a great company and takes care of it's customers.. if they don't fix it under warranty, then people will give them crap for it.

honestly, it was a stupid mistake by the owner.. so why should Outlaw fix it for free?

If I drop a can of Pepsi into the top of my outlaw 990 pre amp.. and it's still under warranty, should they fix it for free? Nope! I f*&CKED up, right? same thing with a heat issue. Users fault.

So, I have mine in a walnut cabinet with about 2" airspace on top and sides, open in front, closed in back, and not exposed to any other heat source.....think I need to cut an opening in the back of the cabinet?......unit doesn't seem to heat up much, and I have it on a lot. The thing sounds great. Had a couple months.

you should be fine.. unless you also have amps, cable box or something else that generates a heat build up.
