I saw this product:

Has anyone tried this or similar product like Vision FC4?

I am getting ready for the Samsung UD-GP5000 (I think, it is a High Def Universal) player) and want to hook it up to a Pioneer Elite PRO520HD at 1080i. Is it worthed, as far as getting the best resolution to my RPTV?
I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

The only problem I can forsee is the HDCP handshake. Much like many HDMI switches.

I don't think that will be a problem, as this HDMI to component converter IS HDCP compatible. In fact many people have used it with no problems whatsoever.

Add-on Question: would this converter *improve* the picture quality if I use it to connect through HDMI connection from DirecTV DVR, instead of the component, on HD (1080i) materials (i.e. NBC's Heroes, ER, etc.)?

    TIA

It most likely may improve the picture quality. It depends on the quality of the DirecTV DVR, sometimes using an external box will provide better picture quality.
