Hi,
I started collecting Sansui equipment In march. I also found a pair of Polk 7b's around the same time. I must say the polks sound great. I can only imagine how great some of the TOTL polks sound. I'm going to recap soon but thats another post. Later Rick

My TU-417 tuner is my giant piece of Sansui gear... I wish I had one of those dual mono Sansui integrateds from the same era... but I would have to use my foot as the remote.

The Wife asked me for one of my receiver's I gave her the new Yamaha (Has Remote) Funny my Sansui SD Reel 2 Reel has a remote (Wired) Later Rick

I guess I got the low end tuner... doesn't look or feel low end. My NAD digital tuner can't even pick up stations this thing can. The NAD drops from stereo to mono leaving a gap in sound every time it does it... no matter where I put the antenna, but wth the analog tuner, it might be a little hissy, but no dropouts. The only gripe I have with it is multipath distortion on the low end of the dial (just one station does it). One of these days I am going to get a better antenna. I am now using a radio shack black square FM antenna set way up ontop of a shelf, going through coax extension, and then to a balun. I have it rotated perpendicular to where the signal is coming from. This beats my omni whip antenna. I am getting the strongest unamplified signal yet, but on some stations, the signal is too strong, and older tuners weren't built for rejection of bad multipath it seems.
I have debated getting a magnum dynalab signal sleuth, but not sure if it would help. -
I put up an omni antenna on the roof so I would get a nice signal in my home based office (Basement) for my new yamaha. I found The old Sansui' tunners
worked better (Stronger Signal) & picked up more stations. I just bought a friend a Sansui mod # 221 from 1976 I cleaned all swithes & pots. I hooked up some speakers and was blown away by how many stations came in with only the internal antenna. In the basement mind you. Later Rick -
I've got a AU-999 (in wood case) and a tuner. I forget the model # for the tuner but I wish it was a TU-999 (in wood case), or one of the beeter ones.Make it Funky!

The TU's shure could pick up some stations. Your Au 999 sounds like a nice unit. Later Rick

I picked up a TU-517 a couple weeks ago. I've been listening to it almost non-stop and this thing is really good sounding. I've got caps on order to re-cap it but it sounds so nice I hate to screw with it.2 channel - Willsenton R8 tube integrated, Holo Audio Spring 3 KTE DAC, audio optimized NUC7i5, Windows 10 Pro/JRiver MC29/Fidelizer Plus 8.7 w/LPS and external SSD drive, PS Audio PerfectWave P3 regenerator, KEF R3 speakers, Rythmik F12SE subwoofer, Audioquest Diamond USB cable, Gabriel Gold IC's, Morrow Audio SP5 speaker cables. Nah...they made a 217 and 317 in the same line. Here's an interesting website.

Well, I said that because it has trouble with some things, such as multipath rejection and tuning in of crowded parts of the dial.
I wouldn't even know where to begin modding this thing for better gain and better performance... I went to that site I while back and, since I am not an electrical engineer, I have no idea how to mod it.
