Why so many HD-DVD players?!

Why does toshiba have so many different models. Honestly can anyone sort out the differences between these 6 different players?! :confused:

HD-XA2

HD-A20

HD-A3

HD-A30

HD-A35


And wasnt there a few models out before these current ones as well?

    Some are sold in big box stores, and some are made especially for wholesale places like Costco.....some have analog audio, some have digital audio, some have both.

    Something for everyone....

    Because Toshiba is the only company making them, needs to have many models out there so that customer can chose one :)

    a1, a2, a3 etc. are just improvements they make to each model about every year or so. But they sit in the same place in Toshiba's product line. The current latest generation is the -3 line. If you want the latest from them, just look within this number series and ignore the rest. Although you can find good deals on the closeout of the previous models...

    lower models are 1080i. stepping up fetches you 1080p and stepping up a bit further you get better up-conversion and analog outs. that is a quickie rundown for various models.

    The models with a 2 in the model number are second gen, and 3 for third gen. So HDA3 is 1080i max, HDA30 is 1080P, HDA35 is high bit rate audio. The HDA2 and 20 are both discontinued. HDXA2 has been carried over and is the top of the line player, with the best scaler and better parts.

    Toshiba is not the only manufacturer. A2 will be sold under Venturer brand in Canada at Walmart.
