Preamp or receive, that is the question...

What do YOU think? I am using my yammie receiver as preamp for my Rotel power amp. It served me well since. Some people say that a preamp (or receiver for that matter) is giving the characteristics of a sound, and some people say that it is mostly the amplifying part that influences the most. So, what is it then? Or is it another question that cannot be answered because it is too subjective?

When I added separate amplification to my receiver it made a huge difference. Within the past month I upgraded to a prepro, it was another upgrade in sound. It wasn't as huge a difference as when I added the separate amplification, but it did make a difference.
If you can afford to do it, then do so.Marantz AV-7705 PrePro, Classé 5 channel 200wpc Amp, Oppo 103 BluRay, Rotel RCD-1072 CDP, Sony XBR-49X800E TV, Polk S60 Main Speakers, Polk ES30 Center Channel, Polk S15 Surround Speakers SVS SB12-NSD x2
