Vertical or Horizontal

I was reviewing Lasareath's web site and noticed he bi-amped vertically.
Is there an advantage to this verses bi-amping horizontally?
I ask because the Polk Instruction Manual shows horizontal, I think.
Does horizontal mean one amp to the tweets and one to the lows, and does
vertical mean one amp to each speaker? And would vertical mean mono blocks?
Still learning these basics and really value this forum.[wife too]
