Broken LCD Screen

An unfortunate mishap this morning resulted in a broken LCD screen on my Sharp Aquos 20" HDTV that I had custom installed in our kitchen cabinet layout. I had to get the cable box out from behind it and I started to undo the screws in the inverted base and as I unscrewed the first screw the other three pulled out of the aluminum threaded base. It did a half gainer on top of the toaster. Screen is toast, no pun intended.

Because this is a custom fit it is fairly important to replace it with the same display or repair my broken one.

Has any one had any luck replacing an LCD screen or having one replaced?

My wife is really happy with me now:(

    Thanks Sal,

I think I am going to try to fix my broken one because it is 26 5/8" wide and I have a 27" hole to fill. It fit like it was made for my cabinet lay out. There was an 1/8" gap all the way around. In my limited search most of the TV's including the one you linked Sal are not as wide as my current TV. Which is better than being wider because I can alway put in filler panels if needed.

    Thanks,

    Scott

My goal for the rest of the day is to not break anything.

I bet you could do it ...its really simple. The hardest thing to do is removing the bezel/shell...even thats easy...just a bunch of screws. Then typically there is only one flex connector and one inverter connector to the lcd screen itself ( And of course some really small screws holding the panel itself in. ) I have done all 3...laptops...desktop lcd screens and regular lcd monitors like you are speaking of here...all very simple.

    Thanks Shadow.

I feel confident in doing it. Where would you recommend getting a new screen from?
