So title says it all. I am thinking of getting an A-3 HD-DVD player from best buy. It is currently $199 and comes with 10movies. The titles I plan to get with it are in bold - the rest are just options at this point......

I also get to choose 3 other movies (not box sets or pre-orders)

I was planning on transformers, but what other movies do you recommend to really show off HD-DVD benefits (audio and visual)

In the box it comes with:
300
The Bourne Identity

For my choice of 5 movies I plan to get:
Aeon Flux [PG-13]
The Hulk [PG-13]

I have no opinon on the final 3 choices - what would best show off HD-DVD benefits??

19. Category C
20. ( ) Charlie & The Choclate
21. Factory [PG]
22. ( ) Swordfish [PG]
23. ( ) Full Metal Jacket [R]
24.
25. Category D
26. ( ) Firewall [PG-13]
27. ( ) The Frighteners [NR]
28. ( ) U2: Rattle and Hum [PG-13]
29.
30. Category E
31. ( ) Black Rain [R]
32. ( ) Darkman [R]
33. ( ) Troy [R]

Thanks - just looking for something jaw dropping here..... :)

I just had to pick 5 from that crappy set of movies myself :)

Even my wife looked at the list and said "these all suck". :)

How did you get so many free? I just got my A30 (within the past month) and I got the 5 standard free and then it came with 300 and Bourne.

Best buy.com is running a deal now where you get the standard 5 free, 2 in the box and pick any 3 you want (excluding box sets or pre-release).

that and the a3 is currently $199. Since I have a 720p set, the offering of 1080p from the a30 just isn't worth the extra to me right now...

Category C: Swordfish, Full Metal Jacket, if its the first release which I'm sure it is, is one of the worst transfers available, if your into FMJ pick up the re release. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, I really don't know how anyone can sit through that movie more than once. Plus with SF you get the whole Halle Berry scene in Hi-Def.:D

Category D and E, the only one I've seen is Troy, so I really can't comment on the others but I can say that Troy is top notch, and has a TrueHD sound track.

    A few recommendations from my collection include;

The Matrix Trilogy - any 3 of these films look great...your only gripe may be with the green filter applied to the video... it is done purposly, but does cause the colours to feel a little dul

Mission Impossible 3 - This is the 1st movie that really made me say WOW...dark scenes stand out quite well, and the picture detail looks great

Letters from Iwo Jima - I prefer this to Flags of Our Fathers, the picture quality is superior, however, the Audio is where this one shines! Guns, Bullets, Explosions...can you ask for anything more? Dialogue is crisp and the audio detail is excellent. By the way...this film is in Japanese, with English Subtitles. If that is a problem, go for Flags, very similar in picture and sound.

charlie and choc factory looks really good. The colors are very lifelike. The 1st Matrix looks and sounds very good. Hot Fuzz is another, though those arent on your list of freebies. You can use this list in the future

If were talking any movie on HD DVD Transformers is hard to beat, but before that I usually went with the airplane scene in Superman Returns, still one of the best scenes that I've heard for showing off how good HD DVD can sound , and just about any scene in MI3 looks great.

Those are actually the 3 I was thinking of....

Now if more companies would just release on both HD-DVD and BluRay

from what i read, if you get troy, get the director's cut. adds over half and hour of content and is supposedly much more gory and the picture quality is supposed to be the best of the best.

I liked the bubbles in Ice Age when Scrat was frozen in a block of ice trying to get his nut. The was my first up close, and personal experience with HD.
Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.

I've been told "What Dreams May Come" on HD-DVD is also very impressive.

I watched "Serenity" on HD-DVD the other night. Absolutely FANTASTIC picture. Showed off the HD capabilities the best I've seen yet.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.
