Im sitting on a Dell precision right now with has 2 X Quad core Xeon procs (1.8 GHZ x 8 cores) and it tags 5.9 proc rating. I belive 5.9 is as high as it gets. Everything Else on the box is 5.9 except ram since it has 677 ddr2 ram thats ECC.

the whole point of 5.9 being the highest right now is that it's supposed to be a scalable raging system - so as new hardware comes out the highest available scores will go up and up, but with the lower rated scores being unaffected. It makes it easy to compare scores across time, so a 3.7 in 4 years from now will be the same as a 3.7 now.

My total score is 5.7 right now.

HDD is 5.4 (WD 160 Gig)

Aside from the gaming scores, what are the overall thoughts on vista. I have XP pro now & its fine but I was looking at a gaming magazine that had screen shots of games with the new directX 10 that comes only with vista & was pretty amazing.

If you have a dx10 card. for me games are a little slower, but every day use seems to respond a little quicker

I love Vista. Like you said, DX10 is amazing and I have found no speed issues with it. But, I am also running Vista a little stripped down so that it acts like an upgraded XP. It does exactly what I want, runs like XP used to, and supports all the new goodies. What more could I ask for? (Although my hardware might help too)

    E6850 Core 2 -3.0ghz
    4gigs 800mhz
    Nvidia 8800GTX 786MB

If you don't have 2 gigs of ram, decent proc, video card forget about it.

My friend is running his on a P4 3ghz, 2 gigs, 512meg 7600gt just fine.

Drivers are coming more available, but you need to ask yourself what does Vista do that XP doesn't? From what I can see its just a few games designed to run with Vista, and DX10.

It runs great with good hardware, but might be able to get a few more FPS out of XP.
