Hi,
I finally replaced the 20 yr old denon head amp with a Hagerman mc headamp. I bought the kit and soldered it up last night. Was up till 2am listening to vinyl. I use a denon 103r mc cart which is low output(0.25mv) and have had other denons with the old denon head amp. I am using the built in phono section on the TAD-150 for now. I have always had some hum and a forward or bright sound on lps. This headamp is very quiet. There is noise at max volume but the hum is gone. At normal levels there is a very slight amount of noise in the backround. Now it sounds much more balanced. The bass is much better. The topend is open but not as fatigueing. The sda effect is off the chart. A Capt Beefheart lp-Safe as milk- is recorded with all kinds of stereo effects and is crazy with the sdas. It seems there is no center on some songs, all the other places but not the middle. With the loading options I can change on the fly, it is easy to fine tune the setup. Vinyl sounds great! I need to get a lp of the new Chemical Bros to compare it to the cd. Excellent cd! This Hagerman stuff is great. Easy to build and sounds great. I am going to get his tube phono amp kit in the future. Peace and hair grease.:D
