new toy in the rack

Hey all, I just got my newest addition to the family put in my rack. I got a nice deal on an Arcam DV27+ from A'gon. Paired it with my Arcam avr300. Before this purchase, i spent countless hours trying to decide which model to go with as i wanted to match brands. This one was highly regarded for it's CD playback abilities as well as stellar video to boot. This sucker weighs 20 lbs and is built like a tank. Not quite an exact match to my avr300 cause it's from the FMJ line and the 300 is from the Diva line. The colors are slightly different but i can live with that.
I only got a little listening in last night and from what i could tell it definitely lives up the its rep as a top performer in cd playback. I am running rca's out to my reciever. I don't have all the fancy vocabulary to describe how i found it to be better than my old player via toslink. Imaging has improved as well as clarity.
Video is superb. Close to high def but not quite. I find the colors so much more vibrant and alive compared to my old Toshiba.
Next i will be ordering an Avia Test disk and calibrating my TV. I found a thread on how to go into my service menu on my Sony GWIII and do some serious tweeking. I am hoping to get ahold of a better set of component cables as well, possibly Blue Jean.
All in all i think i'm quite happy with this purchase although I think that my speakers are seriously limiting the abilities of this combination. I would love to move to a better Polk line but will be doing some serious research on what speakers will sound the best mated with my Arcam gear.
Thanx for listening.

New toys are good.~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence. ~

I hear you. I would have liked one too. Retail on those are $3000 and used are going for close to $2000. Retail on my DV27+ was $2500 three to four years ago and are still selling used for $800 - $1000. I got this one for $700 shipped from CA up to me in Canada. I was quite happy with that price.
Sadly it does not do SACD. They came out with an upgraded version DV27a which did dvd a but this one does not have that upgrade. I could send it in and have it done for roughly $300 but i don't own a single dvd-a disk so i wasn't planning on doing it soon.
As for pics....i took some but can't seem to figure out how to upload them on here at the moment. I will try to figure it out and get them up.
I just finished listening to Dire Straits- Bothers in Arms for awhile. Wow...what a treat. I bought the Eagles Greatest hits digitally remastered cd tonight and had a little listen. Awesome...i'm definitely keeping this baby.Onkyo TX NR 5008 modified by The Upgrade Company

Congrats on a nice unit!
I originally hooked up my Marantz player with component. Later I went back and used an HDMI cable. The picture quality did not change, but man oh man did the sound improve. I think my AVR was downcoverting and then upconverting back when I used the component, but just kept the HD sound when I installed the HDMI cable.
Just an FYI that may or may not help.My Main Gear

Well in this instance it won't help me as this player is component only. I was really looking for something with great CD playback as well as very good video. This one fit the bill perfectly as it was their flagship player a few years ago. My reciever is not HDMI either so it would have been a waste of money to move up to the newest Arcam model that has HDMI as well as comparable CD playback to this unit. Are you talking about the new HD sound formats? I have never heard any samplings yet so i do not know how much better it is. All i know is that Dolby Digital or DTS through my Arcam still blows my hair back so i'm gonna stick with that for now.
